“Ahh..Ah-hah-HAH! Finally I am myself again! Now I can rule this world and the outer one as well!! I need you no longer, Wario! I shall crush you like a bug!”
A hidden figure, Wario Land 3

Rudy the Clown, originally known as "A hidden figure", is one of Wario's enemies, appearing as the main villain and final boss in both Wario Land 3 and Dr. Mario 64. Rudy is a giant clown with green skin, a big red nose, and detached floating hands.

History

Wario Land 3

When Wario was trapped in the world inside a music box in Wario Land 3, a hidden figure appeared as a giant shadowy face in a temple, pleading Wario's help. He states that he is the god of this world, and an evil being sealed away his powers in five music boxes. He requests Wario to break the seal by bringing all five music boxes to him. Wario is unwilling to help at first, until he mentions that he will send Wario home when he is freed and will let Wario keep any treasures he finds along the way. Persuaded, Wario sets out to collect the music boxes.

During the course of the game, Wario can visit the hidden figure at The Temple and be instructed in which level he has to go next in order to progress.

After a while, Wario collects all the music boxes, and frees him. A hidden figure then turns into his true form, a giant evil clown, and reveals that he was using Wario to break the curse placed on him by the inhabitants of the world of the music box. He also revealed that he turned all the world's inhabitants into the monsters that Wario has been beating up during his quest. Now that he is free, he says that he will take over the music box's world as well as the outer world. Not wanting that to happen, Wario fights him.

He attacks Wario with his hands, attempting to grab or smash Wario. He is very powerful, and if he successfully grabs Wario, the player instantly gets a Game Over. However, Wario avoided his hands and attacked them, leaving them stunned on the floor. Wario then grabbed the hands, and threw them at his face. After four hits, he was defeated and the inhabitants of the music box world were returned to normal. They then sent Wario back to his own world, letting him keep all the treasure he had found.

Dr. Mario 64

A hidden figure returns as the main antagonist in Dr. Mario 64, now called Rudy the Clown. Rudy sends his minion Mad Scienstein to steal some Megavitamins from Mario, planning to use them to cure his cold. Mad Scienstein steals the Megavitamins, but is followed by Dr. Mario and Wario, the latter of whom wanted the Megavitamins for himself. The duo eventually came to Rudy's castle and defeated Rudy, taking back the Megavitamins and curing his cold as well.

Fortune Street

Though he doesn't physically appear, Rudy is referenced in Fortune Street. When Wario builds a tent on the board, he states "This is gonna be the best circus ever... as long as Rudy the Clown doesn't show up!"

  • In Wario Land 3, he is still referred to as "a hidden figure" after he has turned into his true form. He was not given his actual English name until his appearance in Dr. Mario 64. In Japanese versions, however, Rudy is always named a "mysterious figure", including the Dr. Mario 64 port of Nintendo Puzzle Collection.
  • He is the only thing in all of Wario Land 3 who can defeat Wario, resulting in a Game Over.
