The game starts in a garden with flowers and hills in the background. When the pairs start up their rockets, the rockets blast off past Lakitus holding signs of the scores, Fly Guys, and [[Bullet Bill]s up into space.

The players in each team have to pump as much air into the rocket as possible within the ten-second time limit. The player can pump the most air into the rocket when the pump is flashing. The team whose rocket flies higher will win the minigame.

If both teams do nothing, they will appear tired and the minigame will end in a draw. It is possible that both teams will have the same distance; one of the teams will win by 48 yards if this were to occur.[1]
