Lord Crump, officer of the X-Nauts.

Lord Crump is a high-ranking X-Naut in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He is second only to Sir Grodus. He guards the second Crystal Star, the Emerald Star as Magnus Von Grapple and the seventh Crystal Star, the Crystal Star as Magnus Von Grapple 2.0. Hoping to steal the fifth Crystal Star, the Sapphire Star, he goes under the name of Four-Eyes in Chapter 5: The Key to the Pirates.

Second in command of the X-Nauts, Lord Crump is always willing to follow Grodus' command. You will fight the somewhat-stupid X-Naut four different times. Your first battle will be against him. Lord Crump also takes part in many of the cutscenes seen throughout the game. After his Magnus von Grapple 2.0 is destroyed, he is sent flying out to space. He mananged to return from space, and now hangs around with Grodus and whats left of X-Nauts in Poshley Heights.

Failed Plans

As Mario makes it to Rogueport, he sees Lord Crump attacking Goombella, and fights him in a tutorial battle. After the defeat of Crump, Crump sends in a mob of X-Nauts to tackle Mario, but he and Goombella escape.

In Chapter 2 of the game, Grodus sends him and the Shadow Sirens to Boggly Woods, knowing a Crystal Star was there, located somewhere within the Great Tree. Knowing the Crystal Star belonged to the Punies in the tree, Crump and his men imprisoned the Punies, teamed up with the Punies' enemies, the Jabbies, and performed a search throughout the tree. Their search for the Star didn't go well when Mario, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie and Punio interfered with everything, liberated the Punies and fought the Jabbies in a battle for the tree. After Mario, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie and the Punies found the Emerald Star, Crump steals it and activates a 5-minute self-destruct mechanism. As Mario and company reach the entrance to the tree, they see that the Puni Elder blocked off Crump's escape, giving them opportunity to force Crump to surrender. Crump was surrounded, so he activated a Magnus Von Grapple Robot to attack, in an attempt to destroy Mario and company and make his getaway with the Emerald Star. But defeating Mario and company and escaping with the Emerald Star was totally unsuccessful when the Magnus Von Grapple Robot was beaten. Upon the defeat of Magnus Von Grapple, Lord Crump and his men were driven out of the Great Tree, and the Puni Elder gave Mario and his team the Emerald Star as a reward.

In Chapter 5, Lord Crump disguises himself as a pirate named Four-Eyes and follows Mario and company to Keelhaul Key to find the Sapphire Star. He secretly follows Mario and company through the Pirate's Grotto as Mario and company search for the Star. After Mario and his friends beat Cortez and obtain the Star, Lord Crump removes his disguise and threatens to blow Keelhaul Key to the bottom of the sea unless Mario gives him the Sapphire Star. Mario, Flavio and company enlist Cortez's help to fight Crump. While Cortez's pirates (with help from Mario and Flavio's deckhands and Francesca and Frankie) and Crump's X-Nauts raid each others' ships, Mario, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, the Yoshi Kid, Vivian, Bobbery and Ms. Mowz fight Lord Crump. This time, Crump's got his X-Nauts as backup. Lord Crump and his X-Nauts lose and are sent off to lick their wounds.

Lord Crump reappered at the end of the X-Nauts base where he attacked Mario and friends in his new Magnus von Grapple 2.0 which had at least a dozen new abilities. Mario managed to defeat Crump narrowly and he was blasted into space.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Stats and Tattle Information

  • Rogueport Battle Stats: HP: 6, Attack: 1, Defense: 0
  • Keelhaul Key Battle Stats: HP: 60 (has 30 HP per round), Attack: 3, Defense: 0
  • Locations: Rogueport, The Great Tree, Keelhaul Key, X-Naut Fortress
  • Tattle: That's Lord Crump. Not this guy again... Ugh. He just attacks normally, so don't worry much about him... But... those X-Nauts around him are a force to be reckoned with. They're going to attack us with all kinds of weird moves, I can just FEEL it! If we take out their leader, though, they won't have the focus to attack. Get Crump!
  • Tattle Number: 119
  • Tattle Log: The X-Naut leader. He likes to attack with body-slams. Always an interesting foe...

Magnus Von Grapple's Stats and Tattle Information

Great Tree Battle (vs. Regular Magnus)

  • Stats:

Magnus Von Grapple: Max HP: 30, Attack Power: 2, Defense Power: 1
Magnus Von Grapple's Fists: Max HP: 2, Attack Power: 4, Defense Power: 0

  • Locations: The Great Tree
  • Tattle: That's Magnus Von Grapple. It's a giant robot built by the X-Nauts. Lord Crump drives it. Max HP is 30, Attack is 2, and Defense is 1. Its most effective attack is one that takes advantage of its size: a smothering stomp. It can also shoot out its fists, which do these super-gnarly rocket punches. Its fists have Max HP of 2, an Attack of 4, and Defense of 0. Its fists are super-powerful, so it's best to knock them down fast. The thing about this robot is I can't tell if it looks cool, or really, REALLY stupid...
  • Tattle Number: 117
  • Tattle Log: A powerful and cutting-edge robot built by X-Naut scientists. It has all the features expected of a robot, including rocket fists.

X-Naut HQ Battle (vs. Magnus 2.0)

  • Stats:

Magnus Von Grapple 2.0: Max HP: 70, Attack Power: 6, Defense Power: 2
Magnus 2.0's Fists: Max HP: 5, Attack Power: 9, Defense Power: 0

  • Locations: X-Naut Fortress
  • Tattle: Ah! Magnus Von Grapple 2.0. The upgraded version of Magnus Von Grapple. Max HP is 70, Attack is 6, and Defense is 2. Its basic attack is a drill move that drops from above. It also sometimes releases its fists for flying X-Punches. Each X-Punch has a Max HP of 5, and Attack of 9, and a Defense of 0. When those fists are flying, you may get attacked by the fists and body in one turn... Take care of those low-HP fists early on, trust me. When the body's HP gets low, it'll also fire machine guns and who knows what else. It may not look too different from the last version, but it's much stronger, so be careful! I still think the whole design is a little ridiculous, though...
  • Tattle Number: 118
  • Tattle Log: The biggest upgrades seem to be the flying features. Watch out for the improved machine guns!
