Welcome to Main Page talk. This is where technical issues go. For all general questions, please visit the FAQ.

WOW!!!!!!

I found a HUMONGUS amount of Mario merchandise pics, so expect lots of new merchandise soon!

Too big...

I found a really neat Mario Bros. pinball game pic, but it more than exeeds the maximum size! Should I still upload it?

.GIF to .PNG?

I've found a gold mine of cover photos and summaries of the Super Mario Bros. book series, but all the pictures are .gif files! Is there any way that I can change them to .jpg or .png files? This is the site: [1]

You can use .gif files on this wiki. Instead of typing .png or .jpg, just type .gif in its place. -- Son of Suns

Name Changes

  1. The page Rowf and Ruff needs to be changed to Rowf and Rhuff.
  2. There are two Tubba Blubba's Castle pages. One only had a few sentences which I erased and the other is one I made complete. That link on Tubba Blubba's page takes you to the blank page. Could somebody delete the blank one?
  3. This is the page I made: [2]
  4. The Peach Doll still needs to be changed to Dolly, and the Sunken Ship still needs to be changed to Sunken Ghost Ship.
Tubba Blubba is already solved, but I took care of the other three. For the record, you could have moved those pages. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 15:31, 15 August 2006 (EDT)

PipeProject Suggestions

I would like to point out the new sub-page of PipeProjects, suggestions. If you are unsure if an idea of a project of yours would get contributors, you can add it here, using a simple format, and contributors will (or hopefully will!) let you know if it's a good idea. You're free to create a PipeProject at any time. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 17:34, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

Sub-Species

Should the creatures who are sub-species have the sub-species and species category on their page?

No, when we did Luigi's Mansion's ghosts, a few of them were derived from the main ghosts, and we only categorized them as sub-species. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 00:53, 19 August 2006 (EDT)

2000 Articles

There are now over 2000 pages that are legitimate, article pages. There are over 5000 total pages, including MarioWiki, MediaWiki, Help, Talk, Template, and Category pages. Congrats to all contributors for making the mark! Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 14:20, 27 August 2006 (EDT)

Sweet. Now for 3K. Monty Mole 14:33, 27 August 2006 (EDT)

Orphaned?

What exactly is an orphaned page? Monty Mole 19:53, 30 August 2006 (EDT)

In what context did you see the term? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 20:01, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
There's a Special Page called Special:Orphaned Pages. Monty Mole 20:19, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
Where is the link to that page. Not even Wikipedia has such a special page. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 21:03, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
Go to Special Pages.
It's actually at this link: Special:Lonelypages. I'm trying to figure out now what it means for an article to be lonely. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 21:15, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
Figured it out. Those 78 pages turn up blank when you use the "What links here" tool in the first link of the toolbox, meaning that no other page in the whole Wiki uses [[ARTICLENAME]] (with the exception of Categories). Thus, it makes it much harder to access the page unless you knew it exists and you use the search box to search the title name.
Such articles should be added the listing pages in the navigation toolbox. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 21:32, 30 August 2006 (EDT)

"Avatar" question

Is it okay to upload images to use on your userpage? I want to right-align an image, but that doesn't work with hotlinked images... --It's-a me, Smeedel. / Talk - Contribs - You 17:04, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

  1. Yes, it's ok. My Yoshi w/ Mario's cap picture is for my userpage.
  2. You originally posted this comment on the Main Page Talk's Archive, which is kept for historical reference only. Why did you do that? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 17:15, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

Because I'm a n00b, I did not know that. Sorry. *smashes head in wall* Edit: Protecting it would be a good idea. --It's-a me, Smeedel. / Talk - Contribs - You 17:20, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

Move

Should this page be renamed as a MarioWiki page? Right now, it's just a regular article and conflicts with all the other regular articles (with are our Mario knowledge-base). --Son of Suns

When I search "Move", I get nothing. What page is conflicting? Talk:Main Page? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 22:52, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
I moved the page to MarioWiki: Main Page. Does that work? -- Son of Suns
Wha-whoah. I understand you by saying that Main Page does not belong in any namespace and is not an article, but...Wikipedia:Main Page on Wikipedia has that name and it's dignified. I'm going to have to move this back. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 22:59, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
That's fine. I was just wondering anyways... -- Son of Suns
Maybe Steve can label the first tab "main page" like Wikipedia instead of "article" as a compromise. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 23:01, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
Umm I don't know how to do that but I think it's fine the way it is. It's the default for most MediaWiki wikis. --Steve (talk) 23:05, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

Categories

I think perhaps an insect category (to put Wiggler, Stinger or any other creepy crawlies in) should be made.

Well then. Make one! Paper Jorge 18:18, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Announcement

The user known as Peachycakes/Daisygirl hasn't only been vandalizing this Wiki, but Wikipedia as well. We have given this user a chance at making quality and accurate contributions. However, s/he has repeatedly violated both this wiki and Wikipedia, and will not be allowed to come back. Just wanted to let everyone know. -- Son of Suns

Can you link to the user's long-term abuse page on Wikipedia? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 20:26, 9 September 2006 (EDT)

Here's the Super Princess Daisy page:[3] Paper Jorge ( Talk·Contributions· Paper Jorge was here at... 20:29, 9 September 2006 (EDT)

Using the same name on Wikipedia...foolish. His/her idea for the sequel is cool, but of course, it is false and he/she is doing it multiple times. Thanks, PJ. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 20:35, 9 September 2006 (EDT)

A query... How did find out they were the same? Out of curiosity.HK-47 w4z h3R3 at 17:33, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

The user uses the same names for both Wikipedia and Mario Wiki and only adds content about the fake game Super Princess Daisy. -- Son of Suns

I mean... did you search that wiki with the intent and sole purpose of finding this info?HK-47 w4z h3R3 at 17:38, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

Actually, I just happened to type Super Princess Daisy in the Search at Wikipedia and I got a fake article pending deletion with comments from other users upset about Peachycakes/Daisygirl. -- Son of Suns

Sysop?

What's the difference between a bureaucrat and a sysop? Superchao 19:35, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

I believe a bureaucrat has the same abilities as a sysop, except for the fact that a bureaucrat can promote others to sysop status (or even bureaucrat status). -- Son of Suns
That is correct. In addition, I think bureaucrats can access special parts of the wiki (core coding, etc), unless that's only for the creator of the wiki (Steve). Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 21:13, 15 September 2006 (EDT)
Sons of Sons is dead on. The only reason I can access the coding is because I own the site. --Steve (talk) 22:55, 15 September 2006 (EDT)
So, in my Dilbert Wiki (dilbert.elwiki.com), the only reason I can change the coding is because I made the wiki? Shyper 16:27, 16 September 2006 (EDT)
That is correct, but change coding extremely carefully. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 16:39, 16 September 2006 (EDT)
You can't change the coding because you didn't setup the wiki. ELWiki manages the files, from what it looks like. --Steve (talk) 19:48, 16 September 2006 (EDT)
Um... all I changed was adding the characters category to the navigation bar. And, logged-in users have more access than people using IPs, sysops have more access than logged-in users, and bureacrats have the most access? Also, is the wiki founder the only one who is automaticly a sysop and a bureacrat? Superchao 16:35, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

On my wiki...

How would I change the titles like changing talk (the tab) to something else? Superchao 16:30, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

You'd have to sift through the MediaWiki pages generated by the default and change the context. (Special:Allpages, then go to the MediaWiki namespace). Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 17:49, 18 September 2006 (EDT)
Special:Allmessages is better. --Steve (talk) 17:57, 18 September 2006 (EDT)
Wow, yes. Sift through that spot instead. :P Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 18:10, 18 September 2006 (EDT)
I'd like to change the tags Article, Talk, Edit, History, Move, Watch, Delete, Protect, User talk, and Block to make them more dilbert-ish. What should I change them to? I already changed user talk to memos. Superchao 18:46, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

Hi! I'm brand new, and I just got a message from Wayoshi telling me how to add borders to pictures to make them look better. I've been uploading lots of pictures, but I don't know how to align or add borders to them! Help, please!!!!

Try this.... HK-47 w4z h3R3 at 17:03, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

"Quotes:" namespace?

Maybe we could make up a Quote: namespace and move quote articles to the namespace. —It's-a me, Smeedel. / Talk - Contribs - You 04:40, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Naw, the parenthesis thing is fine. --Steve (talk) 10:29, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
