Mega Goomba is the boss of World 4 in New Super Mario Bros.
Mecha Koopas are another one of Bowser's minions. They are very similar to Koopa Troopas, but they don't have shells on their backs. They get paralyzed for a short time when stepped on, so Mario can kick them around and pick them up and throw them. When they get thrown however, they don't get very far like regular Koopa shells do. Also, they are technically invincible unless you kick or throw their paralyzed form at an enemy because they always get unparalyzed after a few short moments.

Before the battle, a regular Goomba gains access to a Mega Mushroom and becomes Mega Goomba. Mario must defeat this boss to acquire the key that provides access to World 5.
They make a short appearance in Super Mario World, where they only appear in the last World. Also, the final boss of the game, Bowser, throws them off of his Koopa Clown Car, the hovering clown machine he occasionally can be seen riding in. You must throw them up so they hit Bowser's head. They are like a cross between a Koopa and a wind-up toy. They have a wind on their back and their appearances are quite comical. They walk in a rhythmical way and they must wind themselves up again from time to time. In Mario Party 5 you fight a group of them in the final battle. They walk around trying to hit you with their fiery breath. Jumping on them once will cause them to explode. But keep in mind that jumping on a Mecha Koopa that is about to breathe fire, flashing in red, will hurt you. Mecha Koopas have also made small cameo appearances in Mario Power Tennis and Mario Party Advance.

To defeat Mega Goomba, Mario must activate a switch, causing two platforms to appear. When Mario stands on the platform, it will elevate in the air. From there, Mario can either Wall Jump, or Jump directly on top of the Mega Goomba. For the attack to be successful, Mario must Ground Pound the Goomba (unless he is Mega Mario).
Mecha Koopas make a short apperance in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga in the final level.

Once Mario hits the Mega Goomba three times, the Goomba will die, and Mario can get the key to World 5.
This Goomba originated in the very first previews of New SMB or as it was called back then, Super Mario Bros. DS in which it was a normal level enemy goomba until it was caught in contact with a Super Mushroom which made him the same size as he was in the current game. This new and innovative feature was taken out for unknown reasons. Possibly due to the game being extremely hard if certain enemies turned mega.
