Iggy Koopa is one of Bowser’s sons and the fourth oldest original Koopaling. He is bespectacled and has a rainbow-colored mohawk (just like his brother Lemmy Koopa). His eyes are blue, but are usually depicted as swirls, perhaps representing reflection, the thickness of his glasses, or moments of dementia. Although somewhat insane, Iggy is a mechanical genius and has invented many robotic monstrosities to aid the Koopa Troop, including the attack mechs used during the invasion of Jewelry Land.
The Shroobs are actually led by Princess Shroob's twin sister, who got sealed in the Cobalt Star and broken apart by Princess Peach herself. After Baby Bowser put all the pieces of the star back together, the older Princess Shroob regained her power, fighting the brothers on a flying platform high in the sky. She is much stronger than her sister, and commands a fleet of Shroob saucers. Her attacks depend on how many saucers are present; she can use one to heal herself with a drink, or summon a Chain Chomp to attack Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. She can ride on two saucers, shooting energy blasts down on the brothers, then firing blasts at the brothers from the sides, before being blown from the UFOs and landing on the platform, causing a shockwave. She can also have three UFOs bring her a Shroob meteor, with which she attempts to crush the brothers; however, this attack is easily defended against, and leaves her open to damage. Even without saucers, Princess Shroob can charge either brother. Princess Peach throws stars to the brothers, with which they can knock saucers out of the sky and prevent her from using her more powerful attacks.

History
Once she loses 3500 HP, the player will have to have to eliminate her stronger form with 3000 more HP. In that form, she has seven parts: four arm tentacles, a group of leg tentacles, a crown, and her main body. In order to make her vulnerable, the player must eliminate the leg tentacles, and then the crown, which is the source of her power, before they can attack the body. Princess Shroob's attacks vary depending on which body parts are involved. Her arms can grab or stab the brothers. Her leg tentacles can spin on the ground (two to four at a time). Her head can shoot poison gas, shoot down saucers which hit the brothers, or create an energy orb and drop it on a brother; the latter two attacks can be countered.

During the events of Super Mario Bros. 3, Iggy Koopa and his forces conquered Giant Land, the fourth kingdom in the game. When eventually confronted by the heroic Mario, Iggy attempted to shoot the plumber with his Magic Scepter. In battle, Iggy also displayed impressive jumping abilities. Ultimately, the Koopaling’s efforts were in vain. After three stomps, Iggy Koopa was defeated and Giant Land was liberated.
When the player defeats her and, Baby Luigi claims her mushroom remains, returning to the present, an unconscious Bowser eats the remains and turns into Shrowser, a combination of Bowser and the spirit of the Elder Princess Shroob. This fight is unique because, as Bowser says, you cannot attack. In order to defeat Shrowser, the player must jump over or hit back 20 fireballs, 10 fire orbs, or some combination of the two (e.g. 12 fireballs and four fire orbs), which destroy the spirit of Princess Shroob, causing Bowser to lose his power.

Later, Iggy was significantly demoted and ordered to occupy Yoshi's Island, the first world of Dinosaur Land. This time, when confronted by Mario, Iggy threw star-balls (like the ones Lemmy used in Super Mario Bros. 3) at the heroic plumber. Additionally, the platform the two combatants were standing on during the battle tilted back and forth over a pit of molten lava. Thus to defeat Iggy, Mario had to jump on the Koopaling when the platform was tilted, sending Iggy flying into the lava below. Fireballs were also effective in battle; a couple of fireballs was enough to knock Iggy backwards into the lava. After Iggy was defeated, Mario placed dynamite near the base of Iggy’s castle and blew up the fortress. In both games (Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World) Iggy fights a lot like his little brother Larry Koopa.

During the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Iggy Koopa was demoted even more to a simple mini-boss in Bowser's Castle. In the game, Iggy actually fights for the evil witch Cackletta instead of his father. This is because Cackletta inhabited Bowser’s body and became the monstrosity known as Bowletta. Thinking Bowletta was actually his father Bowser, Iggy agreed to participate in Bowletta’s attack on the Beanbean Kingdom. In battle, Iggy attacked with fire and a hard-to-dodge spin attack. Ultimately, Iggy was defeated once again by the teamwork of Mario and Luigi.

Iggy Koopa is also a boss in Yoshi's Safari.

Other Media
In the Super Mario cartoons, Iggy Koopa was named Hop Koopa. Lemmy, his rainbow-haired brother, was named Hip Koopa. Thus the two Koopalings' names were a play on the music term “hip hop”. The only significant difference between Iggy and Hop is that Hop has a much larger overbite. He was voice by Tara Strong.

Interestingly enough, Iggy Koopa is the name of one of King Koopa’s cousins in the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie. Koopa’s other cousin is named Spike.
