Boss Banana Ship
<< Directory of levels >>

Cliffy Peak is the fifth level of Sun Sun Island in DK: Jungle Climber as well as the first boss level. The Banana Ship is the boss of the level, fought on the mountain peak.

Layout

The level starts in a vertical area with many Blast Barrels adjacent to a cliff. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong can optionally hear Cranky Kong's explanation on how they can move sideways in midair and by using Blast Barrels. Donkey Kong and Diddy must then jump into a Blast Barrel and fall to the right into another one. After blasting from the second one, the Kongs can fall down onto a ledge to the right to collect an oil barrel just under a Blast Barrel. The Kongs can also collect the letter K as they blast from a few more Blast Barrels. The Kongs can enter the leftmost Blast Barrel at the top to blast up to the first Banana Coin.

At the start of the second section, the Kongs can hear Cranky's explanation about Spinner Barrels. The Kongs can jump into a Spinner Barrel to aim it at the letter O. They must then aim it in a northwest direction to another Spinner Barrel, which a DK Barrel is to the right of and two barrels appear above, one of which has the second Banana Coin. They must then aim the Spinner Barrel northeast and enter a Blast Barrel that blasts them to the third section.

In the third section, the Kongs must walk across a wooden bridge, jump up to some Peg Boards, and enter another Spinner Barrel. In the area, the Kongs can shoot from both Blast Barrels and Spinner Barrels. From the first Spinner Barrel, the Kongs can aim for a Blast Barrel at either the left or the right. By taking the one on the right, the Kongs blast through two more Blast Barrels through a narrow path in a cliff and up into a Spinner Barrel. If the Kongs blast at a short rocky wall to the right, they can collect the third Banana Coin. They must aim at a Blast Barrel to the north, which automatically fires them into the fourth Banana Coin and into another Spinner Barrel. They must aim that Spinner Barrel between two Flitters and blast into another Spinner Barrel above. From there, the Kongs can blast slightly north east to collect the DK Coin hovering the very top, and then fall back into the same Spinner Barrel and blast back to the previous one. From the previous Spinner Barrel, the Kongs must blast into a Blast Barrel to the right, which then blasts them into an Arrow Barrel. The Kongs must aim the Arrow Barrel north and blast to the letter N and land into a Blast Barrel, which shoots them through a rocky wall to the right. The Kongs must jump into a Blast Barrel above to continue to the fourth section.

The fourth section is the last section before the boss battle. The section involves the Kongs moving from Peg Boards while avoiding some Mini-Neckys along the way. At the start, Donkey Kong and Diddy must jump up to a vertically moving Peg Board and climb up past three Mini-Neckys to collect the letter G to the left, above the Peg Boards. Before doing this, the Kongs can optionally blast right to go through a short rock barrier and enter a hollow area in the cliff with many gems in midair. The Kongs can blast from an Arrow Barrel to collect all the gems. They must then blast out from the top-right to land on a wooden platform with another DK Barrel; it is located just above the letter G. The Kongs must climb up some more Peg Boards, some of which are moving, and by another Mini-Necky. A Bonus Barrel is above the Peg Boards, and the exit is to the right.

After the fourth section, a cutscene shows King K. Rool and some Kremlings steal five Crystal Bananas. They then use a Spirowarp to leave the area, and the Kongs wonder what the Kremlings are scheming. Suddenly, they are attacked by the Banana Ship (later revealed to be Xananab, who mistook the Kongs as Kremlings), and the boss fight starts. During the boss fight, Donkey Kong and Diddy can walk along the ground or climb from some Peg Boards. A DK Barrel appears at the very right for in case the player is missing a Kong. The Banana Ship's vulnerable spot is a large, red button underneath it. After the Kongs charge into the red button three times, the Banana Ship is destroyed, and the Kongs win the level.
