Backward Somersault

Somersault is advanced type of Jump introduced in Super Mario 64. The moved is often used to reach high places without moving, although it expends slightly more time than other forms of Jump. To use it, the player must Jump while Crouching. The character flips over backward a couple of times and the character may chain it to a Ground Pound. In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario sprays a blast of water during a Somersault.
As of now, only Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi can use this move. Luigi can Spin Jump on the way down from a Somersault in Super Mario 64 DS.
The Side Somersault is a variety of Somersault. It is useful when the player wants to immediately change his/her Jump direction. It can also be used to reach high ledges. The player can use it by quickly tilting the control stick in one direction, then quickly tilting the opposite direction while jumping at the same time.
To this day, this move has been used only in the 3-D series, consisting of Super Mario 64, Super Mario 64 DS, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
