Somersault is a special move used to reach high places without moving, though it does take a little time to use. To use it, the player must Jump while Crouching. The character flips over a couple of times and the character can chain it to a Ground Pound. It is an advanced type of Jump.

So far only Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi can use this move. Although Luigi is the only one can Spin Jump on the way down from a Somersault.

It was introduced in Super Mario 64 and was also included in Super Mario 64 DS. Also in Super Mario Sunshine Mario sprays a blast of water during a Somersault. So far it has only been used in the 3-D games.

Side Somersault is a variety of Somersault. It is useful when the player wants to immediately change his/her Jump direction. It can also be used to reach high ledges. The player can use it by quickly tilting the control stick in one direction, then quickly tilting the opposite direction and jumping at the same time.

So far, this move has been used only in Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 64, Super Mario 64 DS, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Sunshine.
