Beezo
Beezos (トンダリヤ, or "Tondariya" in Japan), also known as Shy Aways in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, are a sub-species of Shy Guys that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2, where they came in three colors: Red, green and gray. This sub-species appears to use tridents as weapons. They also have insect like wings on their back, which allow them to fly.
The Beezos attack by charging towards the player. They normally appear in large groups. There is an seemingly infinite number of Beezos and thus, they won't disappear until the player leaves the portion of the level they appear in.
There are two ways to defeat a Beezo. The players can throw Vegetables or other objects at a Beezo, or jump on one of them, pick it up, and throw it.
Beezos reappear in Super Mario Advance, in which they act the same way they do in Super Mario Bros 2, except that now Beezos are colored red and yellow. During gameplay, if the player defeats a single Beezo, the player acquires 4000 points total.
Beezos made several appearances in The Super Mario Bros Super Show!, usually serving as guards. In the episode "Love 'Em and Leave 'Em", instead of working for King Koopa, they worked for Queen Rotunda. Near the begnining of the episode, they attacked Mario and his friends; however Mario and his friends fought them with vegetables.

A Shy Away (トンダリヤ, or "Tondariya" in Japan) is a variety of Shy Guy that has the ability to fly. They first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2 under the name Beezo, but this article concerns their appearance in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars only.
Shy Aways live at Land's End, as well as Bean Valley. Although they command impressive magical abilities, most Shy Aways choose to run away from intruders instead of fighting them. Additionally, Shy Aways now show a love of watering plants - they will often plant other monsters to fight for them in order to avoid battle.
One specific Shy Away worked for Valentina during her reign in Nimbus Land. This Shy Away was tasked with blocking the entrance to Nimbus Land, preventing any interference to Valentina's plan. Thus, Shy Away traveled to Bean Valley, growing a Smilax, effectively blocking the pipe leading to Nimbus Land. After Mario defeats the first Smilax, Shy Away reappears and grows two more. Eventually, Shy Away creates the Megasmilax, a gigantic Piranha Plant with magical abilities. Ultimately Mario prevails over the plant monster, thus causing Shy Away to run away (and accidentally drop his important Seed).
Shy Away retreats to Nimbus Land. Once there, he is ordered by Valentina to provide nutrients to Birdo. Mario meets up with Shy Away again, and the flying gardener tries to flee a second time. However, the door leading out of Birdo's room is locked, preventing Shy Away's escape. In fact, Birdo holds the key to the door. Thus Mario has to "play" with her (i.e. battle her) to receive the key and open the door.
Once Mario opens the door, Shy Away flies to the throne room, warning Valentina and Dodo of Mario's arrival. After warning her, Shy Away flees for a third time (and is followed by Valentina and Dodo, who also do not wish to fight).
Eventually Mario and company catch up with Valentina and Dodo. The villainous duo are then soundly defeated by the hero plumber and his allies. Afterwards, Mario can find Shy Away hiding on an invisible path off the edge of Nimbus Land. Hoping to avoid a fight, Shy Away gives Mario the Fertilizer and then runs away.
If Mario gives the Seed and Fertilizer to the Gardener in Rose Town, Mario will receive the Lazy Shell weapon, Mario's ultimate weapon, and the Lazy Shell armor, the best defensive armor in the game.
Trivia
- The name Beezo probably refers to the real life insects, bees.
- In the "King Mario of Cramalot" episode of The Super Mario Bros Super Show!, Toad refers to them as Beezo Bandits, and then Mario calls them Beezo Bozos, although those names are likely just insults.
- In Luigi's Mansion, Shy Guy ghosts carry spears and fly in a manner similar to Beezos.
- Ironically, while there was artwork of a yellow Beezo in white shoes, there was no such thing as a yellow Beezo. Only the remake on SNES and GBA had yellow-robed Beezos. Similarly, the Beezos' mouth on their masks did not appear in the game, and would have to wait until Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for its in-game appearance.
