The Black Sugar Gang approaches Wario Castle in the morning.
The Black Sugar Pirates in Wario Land 2, about to strike Wario's Castle.

The Black Sugar Pirates (formerly known as the Brown Sugar Pirates, also called the Black Sugar Gang) were a group of pirates led by Captain Syrup in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Wario Land II. Their base of operations were the SS Teacup and Syrup Castle on Kitchen Island. The crew was made up mostly of Spear Men and Wanderin' Gooms, though most of the significant members were of other species.

After Wario Land II, the crew has been mostly absent from games and seems to be disbanded. The member Ball Bunny appeared as a boss in Wario Land 3. Two new species of Gooms, the Spearhead and Para-Goom were also in this game, though they were not affiliated with the pirates. Captain Syrup later reappeared in Wario Land: Shake It! in her ship The Sweet Stuff, but her crew was nowhere to be found.

Brown Sugar Pirates

The Brown Sugar Pirates (as they were known in Wario Land) were well-known for stealing many great treasures, including a giant golden statue of Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom. Hearing this, Wario travels to Kitchen Island, planning to steal their treasures. After traversing throughout the island, Wario succeeded in defeating Syrup's comrades and eventually defeated Syrup herself. Mario then took the statue of Toadstool right before Wario could get it. Saddened, Wario was cheered up when he stole the rest of the pirate's treasure and had the genies Denpuu exchange some of it for a castle.

Black Sugar Pirates

The Brown Sugar Pirates pirates reformed under the name of the Black Sugar Pirates and underwent a member change. The only members of the original Brown Sugar Pirates were Captain Syrup, Bobo, the ship's guard, and Zenisukii, a giant Ghost Goom. The reformed pirates attacked Wario's Castle, and re-stole back all the treasure that they had stolen from civilians that Wario had stolen from them out of revenge in 'Wario Land II. Enraged, Wario returned to Kitchen Island to re-steal "his" stolen treasure. Syrup sent her new officers to defeat Wario, but again they all fell to him. Not even the Giant Spear Man could defeat Wario, though he tried many times. Eventually, Wario defeated Captain Syrup once again, but found the Giant Spear Man guarding the treasure hoard. Wario defeated him for the final time, and re-obtained the stolen treasure. The Giant Spear Man then changed sides and followed Wario to his castle.
