In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, these small tulip-like flowers spurt out eggs that Yoshi can use, if he catches them. If he ground-pounds near one, they spit out three eggs at a time, but then delay afterward. These are also noted for spurting out the spike-ball enemies named Needlenose, which hurt Yoshi if they hit him.
