The Magic Paintbrush, a.k.a. the Gaddbrush in the Prima-strategy guide for Super Mario Sunshine, is a strange weapon wielded by Bowser Jr. in Super Mario Sunshine. The young Koopa used the brush to paint Goop and graffiti of various shapes including triangles, "X"s, and "M"s all over Isle Delfino as Shadow Mario. He pinned the blame on Mario, who was sentenced with community service. While Mario was cleaning up the mess, Bowser Jr. kidnapped Peach.

History

Apparently, the brush was created by Professor E. Gadd. Bowser Jr. claimed that he got the brush from an "old man in a white coat". Additionally, the brush has the E. Gadd logo on it, as does FLUDD, who reacts with surprise when Bowser Jr. informs Mario of this. It is unknown exactly how Bowser Jr. got the weapon. One theory suggests that E. Gadd gave Bowser Jr. the brush, when he used the Shadow Bandana, or Bowser Jr. simply stole the brush from E. Gadd. Once Bowser Jr. obtained the Brush, he began to cover Isle Delfino with Graffiti.

After the great battle on Corona Mountain, Bowser Jr. dropped his paintbrush and Il Piantissimo found the weapon on the beach. This leads many to believe that Il Piantissimo is now Shadow Mario, who was playable in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, although he also would have had to have the shadow bandana as well.

Other Appearences

Bowser Jr. somehow recovered the weapon prior to the events of Mario Power Tennis, where he used the brush to perform special moves. Several Magic Paintbrushes later appeared on display in Mario Kart Arcade GP's Diamond City course, and Bowser Jr. used it again in Mario Hoops 3 on 3 in his Special Shot, Graffiti Shot. The Paintbrush gets a "look makeover" when it appears in Mario Super Sluggers, as one of the items used in Bowser Jr.'s Special Shot. Jr. even has it as a bat in Mario Super Sluggers, replacing his little spiky bat from the prequel. Also in Mario Super Sluggers, there is a minigame called "Graffiti Runner" where the player finds the Brush and use it to paint the floor the player's color to win. If the player uses all the paint, the player loses it, so the player has to have to grab it again.
