Favorite Mario soundtracks
The music in Mario games is something I always look forward to with every release. The monstrous catalogue of games allows for great musical variety that they are good at taking advantage of. I greatly admire Nintendo's composers and musicians across their many franchises, and a lot of their work can't be talked about enough!

| Donkey Kong Country
|
One of the most technologically impressive soundtracks ever. The composition and instrumentation create such strong moods that combine with the breathtaking visuals to create an amount of immersive depth that few games were capable of back then. It pushed the SNES sound chip to its limits to deliver a beautiful, groovy soundtrack that still holds up today.

As with DKC, hardware limitations don't weigh this masterpiece down, but enhance it. From beginning to end, this soundtrack embraces its weirdness and gives us some of the most surreal vibes in any Nintendo game. There are so many interesting sounds and subversions on display that keep the listener guessing. The Hurry-Up theme definitely deserves all its praise. This is my favorite Wario aesthetic; I pray for more soundtracks to get this experimental.

| Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

As with the game itself, its soundtrack is delightfully strange and unpredictable. One of its greatest strengths is its musical identity; the composers took the techno feel and ran with it, creating such a diverse array of tracks that bring so much character to each location and situation. It's a great example of the invaluable importance of music for a game like this.

| Paper Mario: Color Splash
|
Despite certain obvious creative limitations, Color Splash puts its best foot forward and delivers an aesthetic that is criminally underrated. This soundtrack's expressive and charming nature sweetens the game a great deal. The use of live instruments in combination with synths are a great fit for the paper visuals. Top tier percussion as well! The boss music especially bangs, giving some much-needed spark to the Koopalings.
