The Gold Koopeleon is a rare variety of Koopeleon, the Koopa chameleon. During the events of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Gold Koopeleons lived in the Thwomp Caverns, the interior of the Thwomp Volcano. Gold Koopeleons, as their name implies, look just like regular Koopeleons, except they are gold and flashing.

Like the Koopeleon, Gold Koopeleons have the ability to turn invisible. However, unlike their green cousins, Gold Koopeleons do not use this survival mechanism to hunt prey; they turn invisible to hide from potential attackers. This is because Gold Koopeleons hoard Gold Coins and are afraid of losing their riches. Additionally, although Gold Koopeleons have high defense, they also have low HP, meaning they cannot survive long in battle.

When confronted, Gold Koopeleons tend to flee rather than fight. However, if a Gold Koopeleon decides to fight, it will use two attacks in battle. First, the Gold Koopeleon may turn invisible and attempt to run into the attacker. Fortunately, the Gold Koopeleon’s movement can be followed by the dust that flies in the air as it moves. This attack can be countered by jumping. Secondly, a Gold Koopeleon may run up to an attacker and hit him or her with its tongue. Again, this attack can be dodged by jumping. Sometimes the Gold Koopeleon will perform multiple tongue strikes, meaning an attacker will have to jump multiple times to avoid taking damage.
