Dark Matter is an obstacle in Super Mario Galaxy, which appears in Bowser's Dark Matter Plant. It appears to be purple and black. Bowser was using it to make his galaxy. If the player touches Dark Matter, they will be dissolved, making the player lose a life instantly. It also burns holes in the ground that will make Mario lose a life.

• Its name comes from the real substance of the same name. It is invible and holds our universe together.
