A Rocky Wrench.

Rocky Wrenches are a type of enemy commonly seen on Airships, tanks, and naval ships in Super Mario Bros. 3. They are hiding under lids, and will pop up spontaneously, tossing up to three wrenches at the player.

Rocky Wrenches also appear in Mario Kart DS. As expected, they appear on the course Airship Fortress, which is modeled after the Airships from Super Mario Bros. 3. If on a Rocky Wrench's lid while the creature rises, the kart driver will be lifted up. However, if they run into a Rocky Wrench, they will spin out.

Rocky Wrenches make an apearance in Super Mario Galaxy in the Gusty Garden Galaxy. If Mario is near one of the trap doors they won't come out. When a Rocky Wrench emerges it will throw wrenches at Mario. To defeat them do a Ground Pound when they emerge to flip them upside down, then either Star Spin into them or jump on them.

Appearances in Other Media

In the televsion series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Rocky Wrenches appear in several episodes, most commonly as the guards of Bowser and the Koopalings' Doomship, although they were also shown to work on the Doomsub as well. A Rocky Wrench, whose dialogue consists of nothing but menacing growling, has a somewhat prominent role in the episode "Up, Up, and a Koopa", where one is assigned by Bowser and Kooky von Koopa to guard the cage Mario, Luigi and Emperor Ed;

Trivia

  • Rocky Wrenches look a lot like Monty Moles and use an attack pattern similar to them; they also have shells similar to those of Buzzy Beetles.
