- In the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Vivian is depicted as a transgender female, this was later reference in the Japanese version of the game's sequel described on her Catch Card. However in both English versions, Vivian is portrayed as a cisgender female.
- In New Super Luigi U's opening cutscene, Mario's Cap is seen where he was sitting in New Super Mario Bros. U, but he actually isn't there.
- In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, when Mario uses the Boom Box sticker, a remixed version of Space Zone Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins will play.
- In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, some of the coin formations resemble the "Γ" on Waluigi's cap; many such formations appear in World 9-8.
