Snifit is a relative of Shy Guys with a black mask. The mask has an extended nozzle that can fire bullets, projectiles or other objects. Though Snifits first originated in Doki Doki Panic, a game unrelated to Mario, they have since become semi-common enemies in the Mario series of games.

Super Mario Bros. 2

In Super Mario Bros. 2, Snifits are rarer than Shy Guys, and usually come in three colors: red, gray and pink. In the second world and sixth world, Snifits were gray and green in color. Strangely, there is only one red Snifit in the entire game. In the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 2, the pink Snifits are blue.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Snifits appear as semi-common enemies in the game's various castle levels; in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Snifits would attack Yoshi and Baby Mario by shooting projectiles at them. Yoshi could defeat a Snifit in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island by jumping on it, swallowing it with his tongue or by simply shooting it with an egg.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, three Snifits, aptly named Snifit #1, Snifit #2 and Snifit #3 appear as the minions and playpals of Booster, aiding him in his plan to marry the kidnapped Princess Toadstool. A blue and magic wielding sub-species of Snifits, known as Spookums also appear in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars in Booster Tower.

During the ending cinema of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, several Snifits can also be seen attending the wedding of Booster and Valentina; additionally, if Mario loses to the Apprentices at Booster Pass several times, they will be honored by Booster by being allowed to become a Snifit. Also in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Snifits will shoot Bullet Bills in battle, instead of simple, bullet-like orbs.

Super Mario 64 (DS)

In Super Mario 64 and it's enhanced remake, Super Mario 64 DS, a floating, red sub-species of Snifits, known as Snufits, appear in Hazy Maze Cave. Like Snifits, Snufits will attack by shooting projectiles from the nozzle on their masks.

Yoshi Touch & Go

The only type of Snifits seen in Yoshi Touch & Go are an unnamed variety that have propellers on their heads, allowing them to fly through the air, much like Fly Guys. These Snifits would appear on the side of the screen and spit a deadly bullet down at Yoshi, but both they and their otherwise formidable bullets may be destroyed with a tap by the stylus. What appear to be normal Snifits with sprites similar to them do, however, appear on the high scores screen.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, three sub-species of Snifits appear as enemies; the first is Laser Snifit, which are Snifits wearing white lab coats and who are able to shoot circular lasers from the protrusionms on their masks. The Spiky Snifit is cactus-like being which lives in Teehee Valley wearing a Snifit mask that can shoot either spiked balls or helpful mushrooms. The Ice Snifit, a Snifit wearing a parka and who is capable of shooting ice also appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga in Joke's End.

Gunner Guys, a type of Shy Guy found in Bowser's Castle in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga are also similar to Snifits, wearing masks similar to them and being able to shoot projectiles from that mask.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

A single, odd sub-species of Snifit appears Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time underneath Gritzy Desert nin the Gritzy Caves. This sub-species, known as the Snifaro wears a pharoah's head dress and rides on a rocket-powered sarcophagus, which has another, regular Snifit within it; who will occasionally attack by shooting speedy bullets.

Yoshi's Island DS

In Yoshi's Island DS, a rare type of Snifit, known as a Zeus Guy appears. Unlike other Snifits, Zeus Guys shoot flames from their masks, instead of projectiles.

Other Appearances

Mario Party Series

Snifits appear in several installments of the Mario Party series, such as in Mario Party 3, where one appears as the partner of Princess Daisy in the game's Duel Mode. A Snufit law-enforcement agency, called the Snufit Police, also appears in Mario Party 2 in the Space Land board.

In the upcoming game Super Mario Galaxy, a gigantic, tripedal robot resembling a Snifit and conjecturally named the Snifit Bot, appears as a boss.

Cartoons

Snifits made several appearances in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, where they were portrayed as minions of King Koopa. The first appearances of Snifits in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was in the episode "Butch Mario & the Luigi Kid / All Steamed Up", where a brigade Snifits, in cowboy attire, are shown to work for Sheriff Mouser. The show established that they, like the Shy Guys of Super Mario Bros. 2 and other episodes of the show, had the ability to ride Ostros.

Comics

Snifits were also featured in several issues of Nintendo Comics System, where they appeared to be high-ranking minions of Bowser, as they are shown to command and train his Shy Guy troops. One particular, unnamed Snifit was featured prominantly in the Nintendo Comics System issue "Duh Stoopid Bomb!", where the Snifit, after accidentely becoming super-intelligent after being caught in the explosion of a Smart Bomb, usurps Bowser of his armies.

In Nintendo Power's Super Mario Adventures comic serial, a Snifit was seen among the attendees to Bowser's forced wedding to Princess Toadstool.

Movie

Snifits also appeared in the Super Mario Bros. movie, where they are shown to be the garbagemen of Dinohatten, instead of soldiers in King Koopa's army.

Sub-Species

  • Spookum - Snifits who wear blue robes, they are also capable of using magical attacks, most of which are ice based.
  • Snufit - Red colored Snifits who inhabit mines and space, they are capable of flying through the air.
  • Laser Snifit - Snifits who wear white lab coats, a protrusion on their masks allow them to shoot circular laser beams.
  • Spiky Snifit - A cactus wearing a Snifit's mask, it lives in deserts and can shoot spike covered balls.
  • Ice Snifit - Snifits who wear brown parkas, they can shoot blasts of ice and can use a team-up style attack.
  • Snifaro - A Snifit wearing a pharaoh's head dress that rides on a flying sarcophagus.
  • Zeus Guy - Snifits wearing orange clothing who are capable of shooting a blast of fire from their masks.
