An Empty Block is a type of block in the Mario series. In Super Mario Bros., it is said that Toads have been turned into Question Blocks, Brick Blocks and other blocks. Used Blocks usually appear when Mario or Luigi hit a Question Block or Brick Block with an item or coin(s) inside, though they sometimes are naturally Empty Blocks. Empty Blocks are usually square and brown with rounded edges, and sometimes have nails, and in Super Mario World, Empty Blocks have small, closed, angry eyes. Also, in Super Mario World, if the player hits a blue P-Switch, all Empty Blocks will turn into coins and vice versa for a short time. Empty Blocks can only be broken by Mega Mario or stronger enemies, such as Broozer.

In Super Mario 3D Land, giant Empty Blocks also appear. They are usually found in hidden rooms accessed via Warp Pipes, and are often put together to form sculptures that create 3D illusions. Template:BoxTop
