Okay guys. So, with 2009 coming to a close, I must say... my favorite movies this year were, in order and with reasons are:

#5: Fantastic Mr. Fox: Had the quirky humour of an Indie film executed with the professionalism you'd expect from the finest stop-motion. The animation is spectacular and the writing is excellent... a must-see if you are a fan of Roald Dahl's books or stop motion!

#4: Ponyo: Miyazaki's latest gemstone is a tale of love... and a hyperactive 5-year-old goldfish. Gorgeous animation, compelling and bizzarely ingenious story... it may not be the greatest triumph in Miyzaki's catalogue, but it's a refined one nevertheless.

#3: Coraline: Another delightful stop-motion animated feature, Coraline comes from the acclaimed director of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and CORPSE BRIDE, Henry Sellick. Genuinely creepy and deeply felt, this enthralling feature will keep you on the edge of your seat.

#2: The Princess and the Frog: Too long has Disney's traditional animation department been shut down. This film opened it up again in a big way. Randy Newman graces the soundtrack with his upbeat and lively music and the characters are all made memorable with a Disney touch.

#1: Up: Where do I begin? Gorgeously rendered and truly "uplifting", this inspiring story is unlike any other portrayed through the animated film medium.... Up is something of a fairy tale: Beautifully told and clever in the most bizarre ways.
