RE: Article

Good day, Kirbyo. I'm glad to hear you have interest in submitting a section to the paper. You don't have to use Discord to sign up for The 'Shroom. Are you able to make an account on our forum? It's free and only requires an e-mail address. If so, you can make an account and copy and paste your section into a private message to be sent to our Statistics Manager. That's the easiest way to sign up, but if that can't work for you, we can look for some alternative solutions.

RE: RE: Article

good day to you to, Hooded Piyohui. thats a great sudjestion, but im not a fan of social media, and the forums seem too mutch like what i think reddit is like (not like i actually use reddit, i dont). is their a way i can just email you (or whoever i send my aplication to) my aplication, when its done? also, am i able to do it where i can make a section for the issues of the shroom when i want to? for example, i might be buisy march cause of tests, so ill miss that article, but ill make another one in june or april. thanks.

Generally speaking, which talk pages discussions are held on don't matter that much, but many people use this "RE:" method of holding talk page discussions because your own talk page is automatically watched. That said, if it's easier for you, I'll add your talk page to my watchlist and we can keep any remaining discussion here. Now, onto the question at hand, if you don't use the forums and you don't use Discord, there is an option for you to e-mail the section. If you would, please, e-mail your submission to mwshroom@gmail.com. We'll receive it there and treat it like any other submission. (Oh, and, as an aside, it's good form to sign your talk page messages by leaving four tildes at the end of them.) Hooded Pitohui (talk) 17:38, December 9, 2020 (EST)

first off, watchlisting eachover so we can know when the other has a message is a good idea. also, thanks for the email method, it will work perfectly! ill try and finish the application tonight. btw 4 tidles! Kirbyo (talk) 18:56, December 9, 2020 (EST)

I've submitted my aplication!Kirbyo (talk) 19:38, December 9, 2020 (EST)

One last thing... how will i get the results? Also, if i somehow do get accepted, i wont be able to make any new articles for at least a few weeks while i learn how to use the wikis editor. is there a place where i can improve my skills with the wiki's editor? Kirbyo (talk) 19:46, December 9, 2020 (EST)

MarioWiki:Sandbox. Of course, you can make your own. Sprite of a Goomba from Super Mario Bros.DarkNightSprite of a Piranha Plant from Super Mario World 20:00, December 9, 2020 (EST)

I'll contact you with the our feedback in a week's time. We take a week to review submissions, and, after that period has passed, we'll reach out and let you know whether you've been accepted or rejected and offer our suggestions for how you can improve your article. As for testing, yes, as DarkNight has noted, you can use the sandbox. Please be sure not to put entire articles in there, though. As for your question about collapsible tables you left on my talk page, use this basic code, replacing "TEST" with whatever you would like to include.

!style=background:silver|Answers
|-
|TEST
|-
|}
Hooded Pitohui (talk) 10:49, December 10, 2020 (EST)

Thanks, HP, and Dark Night to! can't wait for the results! Also, if i get regected, but also given tips on how to improve, can i send back my aplication with those improvements? Kirbyo (talk) 11:05, December 10, 2020 (EST)

Yes, of course. If you are rejected, you can send the application back in with the improvements made. If you do everything asked and show you take the feedback seriously, it'll give you a high chance of being accepted the second time. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:38, December 10, 2020 (EST)
To tell you the truth, it varies. Many days, we have no applications at all. Some periods see more than others. I assure you, though, that quantity doesn't influence our decisions. We'll judge your application solely on its quality. The number of applications we receive doesn't change the quality of an individual application. RE: sudgestion

Thank you for the suggestion, this month's Spotlight will actually be themed alongside the rest of The 'Shroom, but we can definitely look into it for January's Spotlight. Yoshi876 (talk)

Your Submission

Hello, Kirbyo. To be clear, we haven't reached the end of our week period, but I wanted to reach out to you early to give you a chance to get your section into the December issue, since that seemed to be your aim. What we need to see is that you are capable of properly using basic wiki coding and cleaning up your submission a little bit. I've seen that you've been practicing with the "show/hide" boxes, but, as your original submission didn't use them, we need to a see a version that does. Here's the changes we need to request you make:

 • Redo your submission while using the wiki coding your section needs
 • Clean up the grammar and formatting a bit (add punctuation to the end of sentences, be sure to capitalize the start of sentences)
 • Italicize the names of games
 • Add one image at the start of your section (the boxart of Super Mario 64 would work well for this edition).

A small image at the start, like Yoshi876 used in his old Quiz section would help make your section more visually appealing. If you need help with the wiki formatting required for italicizing words or adding images, please look at our Manual of Style. Long story short, we just need to send one revised submission that shows you know how to use the basic wiki formatting your section uses. If you can do that, it would be a big help! If you can do it in the next two days, we should be able to get you into the December issue. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 14:14, December 13, 2020 (EST)

Oh, it's fine if you'd like to wait until January's issue. To be clear, though, we're not asking you for a new edition of your section yet. All we need is the section you've already written, with the proper wiki formatting added. In any case, we'll contact you with our full feedback when the week period ends on December 17th, and you can submit the revised version any time before January's issue. That's perfectly fine. Thanks for clarifying when you'd like your first article to appear. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:48, December 14, 2020 (EST)
That's no problem. Feel free to send your updated section. Be sure to go over it and ensure that all grammar, spelling, and wiki formatting is correct before you send it. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 08:27, December 16, 2020 (EST)
You need to add the apostrophes yourself. While we will correct minor mistakes, we expect writers are able to include the basic wiki formatting that their sections require on their own. Please put in the apostrophes and any other wiki formatting (for example, the "show/hide" boxes) yourself in the submission you send to us. If you need help, you can reach out and we can gladly assist you. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 12:05, December 16, 2020 (EST)

ok, I understand. so basically I'm pretending I'm writing directly on the wiki? cool. I might need help with images thought. can I plz have the code for those? thx.

Kirbyo (talk) 12:19, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Exactly! Write it just as if you were writing it directly on the Wiki! Here, I'll give you an example of basic image coding that you can copy and paste and edit as you need to.

comes out as:

This is a caption

Please replace the filename (XYZ.EXT) with the name of the image you would like to use, replace the "200px" with the size you want the image to be, and the last portion with whatever caption you would like to use. For further information, please look here and here.

I only have one question left...where can i find usable images? btw finished my final draft of my article!

Kirbyo (talk) 19:03, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Hello, Kirbyo! First, to answer your question, you may use any image that is already on the Super Mario Wiki. Simply click the image you want to use and go to its page to find out its filename so you can use it. You can also use images that aren't already on the wiki. Simply give them an appropriate name and send a link to them (external - do not upload 'Shroom images to the wiki on your own) at the bottom of your submission. Now, your application period is over, and I'm happy to say that you have been accepted! We were going to ask that you send in a revised version with the wiki formatting, but you've already done that! Looking over your recent submission, you've already greatly improved your skill with the wiki editor, and everything looks good. So, you are all set and you are officially a writer for The 'Shroom. I only have one final question. This section you have sent in, the one themed around Super Mario 64 DS that we already have, would you like that to debut in December's issue, in two days, or in January's issue? Either one works. We simply need to know your preference. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 10:54, December 17, 2020 (EST)
Alright. That sounds just fine. We will hold onto it until January. Thanks for your patience and cooperation, and have a grand day! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:08, December 17, 2020 (EST)
That's fine. You have plenty of time to make those changes, so feel free to submit an edited version. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 12:18, December 17, 2020 (EST)
We did indeed receive the revised submission. As for links, you can make internal links like this Mario (Mario) or like this where the text differs from the target page (where the text differs from the target page), and external links can be made this Wikipedia Wikipedia. I hope that helps! Check out those pages I linked you to earlier if you need more guidance, and, remember, there's nothing wrong with practicing in the sandbox or asking other users for help while you learn the formatting. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 17:06, December 17, 2020 (EST)
I'm sorry, but I don't know all that much about wiki formatting. I mostly know only what's relevant to The 'Shroom, often learning new things to meet the needs of writers. You've probably seen that my own userpage is rather bland. I'd recommend asking other users for tips on those kinds of things. (I'd also recommend you ask for tips on what kind of editing and content you can do to help out the wiki. You might learn a few formatting tricks just by working on different projects, or you might even be able to come up with some of your own. Plus, it's just good to make some contributions to the Wiki's content, too.) Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:04, December 18, 2020 (EST)

RE: help with homepage and other tips

Hello. One thing a lot of people do to their userpage is adding userboxes. If you're referring to appearance, you can add a border and background colour to the page by placing this at the top (this is what I used for my userpage a while back; you can change the "#3C0" and "#F60" to different colour codes based on your preferences):

<table style="color:black;background:#3C0;border:6px solid #F60;-moz-border-radius:6px;padding:8px;" width=100%> <tr><td>

You can always look at other userpages and use their formatting code as well.

If you've played Donkey Kong on the Game Boy, there are some level articles in need of creation. There are also a few Mario Odyssey locations missing. Special:WantedPages usually lists articles with many red links that haven't been created yet, but the best way to starting finding articles to help with is to find articles about games you know well. You can try looking on the game page of a specific game then branch out from there.

As for formatting tips, one thing you might do often is piping links (changing the display text of a link): for example, Luigi's brother which becomes Luigi's brother (that is Display text). We generally do this for articles with parenthesised identifiers like Mario Kart (series) (Mario Kart which becomes Mario Kart - the "(series)" part should be hidden). In these cases, one helpful shortcut is simply typing Mario Kart (series) (with the vertical bar at the end), which saves time and produces the same result after you've saved the edit (though this won't work in gallery captions). This is also nifty when creating interwiki links like wikirby:Kirby's Return to Dream Land (this hides the "wikirby:" part in the link text). Speaking of, you can find prefixes for other wikis on Special:Interwiki.

You'll find much of the formatting pointers you need on Help:Contents (MarioWiki:Manual of Style is also worth reading). I hope something here helps. Mario (Gold) costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:20, December 18, 2020 (EST)

RE: Release

I'm currently uploading the issue. I can't give an exact timeframe, but it should be finished within the next two hours. Keep an eye out on the main page. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:54, December 19, 2020 (EST)

You've probably seen, but I thought I'd mention that the issue is now out. Enjoy it! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 14:10, December 19, 2020 (EST)

Customize "this"

If you are talking about customizing your signature, then go to MarioWiki: Signatures. (Create a signature page, then change the signature section in preferences to say ) If you're talking about something else, then tell me. Re: Jumping Boots

Hello, I have rewritten your recently created article on Jumping Boots.

 • When writing articles, do not write in second person or implied second person (you must go there, go to this location, etc.) Always use third person, such as the player or the names of the protagonists.
 • Piping link titles is not necessary for Woohoo Hooniversity since the spelling is the name as the article title. You pipe when you want to write other words for an article title.
 • Make sure you add the proper categories and navtemplates to the article you are making.
 • You have to write with proper grammar and spelling. Capitalize your first words, proper nouns such as Laser Snifit, and write "they are" properly.

If you need more help in this area, I suggest looking at other similar articles, such as the Starbeans Cafe items, and use them as a template on what you need to do. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:50, December 25, 2020 (EST)
