A Rocky Wrench.

Rocky Wrenches are a type of turtle commonly seen on Airships, tanks, and naval ships in Super Mario Bros. 3. They are hiding under lids, and will pop up spontaneously, tossing up to three wrenches at the plumber.

Rocky Wrenches also appear in Mario Kart DS. As expected, they appear on the course Airship Fortress, which is modeled after the Airships from Super Mario Bros. 3. If on a Rocky Wrench's lid while the creature rises, the kart driver will be lifted up. However, if they run into a Rocky Wrench, they will spin out.

Super Mario Galaxy

Rocky Wrenches make an apearance in Super Mario Galaxy in the Gusty Garden Galaxy. If Mario is near one of the trap doors they won't come out. When a Rocky Wrench emerges it will throw wrenches at Mario. To defeat them do a Ground Pound when they emerge to flip them upside down, then either Star Spin into them or jump on them.

Trivia

  • Rocky Wrenches look a lot like Monty Moles and use an attack pattern similar to them; they also have shells similar to those of Buzzy Beetles.
