Other than the fact that they are all birds, Bumpties may have a relationship with two other avians that live in alpine climates:  [[Goonie|Goonies]] and (most likely) [[Raven|Ravens]].  Bumpties and Ravens share a common appearance.

As they appear in Yoshi's Story.

Bumpty are a race of penguin-like creatures that first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Bumpties were usually found in icy areas simply wandering around. Yoshi couldn't swallow Bumpties (except in Yoshi's Story) and if he ran into one he would be repelled backwards.

They reappeared in Stage 3-4: Frustration in Yoshi's Story. They would still repel Yoshi if he ran into them, but they could be eaten.

Bumpties returned in Paper Mario. In this game, Mario travels to a city of Bumpties called Shiver City. He also meets a famous writer named Herringway who is a Bumpty.

Some Bumpties can fly.

Bumpties also made a small appearance in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door where they live in Poshley Heights, a town of the rich and famous. Mario also meets an incompetent detective Bumpty named Pennington.

They also appear in Yoshi's Island DS in Baby Bowser's levels. Here they can be defeated simply by blasting them with one of Baby Bowser's fireballs.

It seems Bumpties can come in a few different colors, as in Paper Mario: a Penguin Patrol Bumpty was green and the Mayor of Shiver City's wife was pink.

Other than the fact that they are all birds, Bumpties may have a relationship with two other avians that live in alpine climates: Goonies and (most likely) Ravens. Bumpties and Ravens share a common appearance.

Trivia

  • As of yet, Yoshi's Story has been the only game to feature anything close to a 3-D Bumpty.
  • Bumpties are not to be confused with Penguins, similar birds that appear in more Mario-focused games.
  • It is interesting to note that there were many opportunities for a Bumpty to make an appearance in Mario Party 8; however, in all of these instances a small Penguin appeared instead. The game even went as far as to call the Penguins, which aren't foes, classic Mario enemies, while Bumpties (classic Yoshi enemies) were ignored completely.
