- In the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Vivian is depicted as a transgender female, this was later reference in the Japanese version of the game's sequel described on her Catch Card. However in both English versions, Vivian is portrayed as a cisgender female.
- In New Super Luigi U's opening cutscene, where Mario sits in New Super Mario Bros. U, he is absent and replaced by his cap. This is probably because Luigi is the main character instead of him.
- In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, when Mario uses the Boom Box sticker, a remixed version of Space Zone Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins will play.
- In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, some of the coin formations resemble the "Γ" on Waluigi's cap; many such formations appear in World 9-8.
