Gold Mario is a downloadable playable character in Mario Golf: World Tour. Similarily to Metal Mario being spun-off the form of the same name, Gold Mario is also spun-off from a form of the same name, which appeared in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Gold Mario is unlocked by either purchasing all three downloadable course packs, or by purchasing the Season Pass, which unlocks him immediately. Unlike other playable characters in the game, Gold Mario cannot collect power-ups. To make up for this shortcoming, for every yard that a hit golf ball travels, Gold Mario will collect one coin. Because of this, he is not playable in challenges that require the player to collect a certain amount of coins.
