World 1 of New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a grassy plains-type land and the first world of the game. It's layout is similar to that of the first world of the original New Super Mario Bros.. The map music is the same as that of World 1 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The boss is Roy Koopa.

Levels

World 1-1

This is the first level of the game. It starts off with a ? Block containing a coin, followed by a Goomba. Ahead, there is a stack of coloured blocks with two sets of ? Blocks, the latter containing a Super Leaf. Moving on, there is a row of Note Blocks over an abyss, where the first Star Coin can be seen and obtained over a set of Brick Blocks. The following rectangular ? Block contains a Fire Flower. A three Goomba tall Goomba Tower then follows, along with a green Koopa Troopa and another stack of coloured blocks. Above this set sits a lone Brick Block which can turn into a Gold Block when hit several times. More Note Blocks follow, then the checkpoint flag. Another Goomba Tower and a stack of coloured blocks follow, where the player can get a Fire Flower. The next Star Coin can be seen enclosed in breakable Brick Blocks over another row of Note Blocks. Upon obtaining it, a 'fountain' of coins come out of the abyss below. Immediately after that the player should be able to see a Brick Block on the ground, covering a hole. Ground pounding it will release some coins and turn into a Gold Block. Upon obtaining the Gold Block, the player falls into the hole into a secret cave, sliding down the slope and defeating 4 Goombas. In the cave, the first Coin Roulette Block can be seen. Back in the overworld, a Goomba Tower follows, then a stack of coloured blocks, another Goomba Tower which is 8 Goomba tall, and finally, the flagpole.[1]

World 1-2

The level starts off with a green Warp Pipe. Above it is a green Koopa enclosed in Brick Blocks, and the first red POW Block. Hitting the block will destroy the Brick Blocks and overturn the Koopa. The POW Block itself turns into a Used Block. Going down the pipe, the player will automatically ground pound and hit another red POW Block. The level is full of Koopa Troopas and red POW Blocks, which breaks empty Brick Blocks, triggers those containing items or reveal hidden items. The first Star Coin is hidden in several Brick Blocks where the player can see three Koopas and two POW Blocks. To obtain it, the player has to activate the POW Blocks by using the red Koopa on top, revealing the Star Coin. A gold Warp Pipe follows, leading the player to a room with a Star Coin. The player has to hit the P-Switch and dash to the Star Coin while avoiding the Koopas before the timer runs out. Back in the main area a Piranha Plant will stick out of the gold pipe the player came out from. Moving platforms appear. After that, the player can see the first pipe which turns fireballs into coins. To access it the player needs to use a Koopa to activate a POW Block. exhausting the pipe will release a Mega Mushroom. After several more Koopas and Piranhas the player reaches the checkpoint flag. Mega Mario is needed to break several blocks to obtain another Star Coin between two sets of moving platforms. After that, a pipe leads back to the overworld, where another set of Brick Blocks can be found with a POW Block, followed by the flagpole.[2]

The player starts on a bridge in front of a tree on a hill. The playier can go on top of trees by using Racoon Mario. There are Snake Blocks circling around platforms throughout the level. Goombas and Koopa Troopas inhibit the level and the main power-up is the Super Leaf. There are two Coin Roulette Blocks in the level, one on the platform to the right of the first Star Coin, and the second near the end of the level on a platform with Snake Blocks around it. There are also several pipes which releases Goombas.[3]
