Buffaloafers are initially found grazing on grass. When they notice the [[Kong]]s, Buffaloafers start chasing them around in an attempt to ram their horns into them. If the characters jump on top of a Buffaloafer, the enemy tosses them in the air, causing the player to briefly lose control over the Kongs but without inflicting damage on the characters. Getting hit by a Buffaloafer results in the Kongs losing a heart from their health meter.

Buffaloafers can be lured into a wall or [[Roll Attack|rolled]] into their ramming horns to turn them temporarily upside-down, a state in which the Buffaloafer is vulnerable to stomp attacks, three of which are needed to defeat it. [[Cranky Kong]] can more directly defeat a Buffaloafer by performing three [[Cane Bounce]]s off its back.
