Duel Events are a type of Event that exclusively appears in the Wii U version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Duel Events share some similarities with Dream Events, however they instead focus on earning Duel Points, which are gained by attacking other players or scoring in the same way as in the original sport that the event is based on and use almost identical controls and rules. Duel Points can be built up by attacking other players using a range of items and special attack mechanics, but cannot actually be won until a points would be scored in the actual event, such as scoring a goal in football, which also awards extra points.
