Somersault is a special move used to reach high places without moving, though it does take a little time to use. To use it, Jump while Crouching. The character flips over a couple of times and the character can chain it to a Ground Pound. It is an advanced type of Jump.
So far only Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi can use this move. Although Luigi is the only one can Spin Jump on the way down from a Somersault.
This move was first introduced in Super Mario Bros. 2, where, if the player charged up a crouch, they would jump very high. This its only appearance in a 2D game.
It was re-used in Super Mario 64. In Super Mario 64 DS the rest of the characters could use it. Also in Super Mario Sunshine Mario sprays a blast of water during a Somersault. So far it has only been used in the 3-D games.
