| King Koopa brought his Koopa Pack to the crime-ridden city of Crime Land, only to plague the community with even more crimes of his own. He soon took on the alter ego of Al Koopone, and constantly ordered [[Mouser (character)|Mouser]], [[Tryclyde]] and [[Koopa Troopa]] to commit crimes for him, while he relaxed inside his office at the Koopa Klub. Not wanting to be stopped any time soon, Al Koopone ordered many [[Unzappable Hat]]s from the [[List of Implied Locations#Gangster Supply Store|Gangster Suppy Slore]]. Al Koopone then tested the Unzappable Hats by ordering the Koopa Pack to wear them while he shot them with bullets from a [[Snifit]]. Since the hats worked, Al Koopone announced that they would be commiting their next crime.

| Al Koopone and the Koopa Pack eventually arrived at the [[First Mushroom Bank]] and declared a stickup towards all the [[Toad (species)|Mushroom People]] that were inside. Upon spotting the bank vault, Al Koopone blew the door open by bowling a [[Bob-omb]] into it. However, Al Koopone was startled to learn that [[Mario]] and his friends were waiting for them on the other side. The heroes then assaulted the Koopas with [[Vegetable]]s, but since they were wearing their Unzappable Hats, the Vegetables proved to be useless, as did Mario's [[plunger]].

| With no way to fight back against Al Koopone, Mario and his friends were eventually tied up and forced into cement shoes before being brought to a bridge crossing over one of Crime Land's rivers. [[Toad]] managed to convince Koopa Troopa to take his cement shoes off, but Al Koopone, aggrivated at his own minion's stupidity, kicked him into the air and across the city. Al Koopone then pulled a lever, opening a trapdoor in the bridge which caused Mario and his friends to all sink into the river.

| Al Koopone and the Koopa Pack eventually returned to the Koopa Klub to retire for the night, unaware of the fact that Mario's group had managed to escape from the water. After sneaking into the Koopa Klub and stealing the Unzappable Hats for their own use, Mario's group confronted Al Koopone and the Koopa Pack. Al Koopone ordered his henchmen to shoot Mario's group with their Snifits, but the Unzappable Hats made them invulnerable. Mario's group then tossed Vegetables at the Koopa Pack to defeat them, while Al Koopone cowered behind a fallen table. He eventually made a run for the exit, but Mario stood in his way. Left with no other choice, Al Koopone pulled out a [[Magic Potion]] and used it to create a [[door]]. Upon entering the [[Warp Zone]], Al Koopone escaped from Crime Land, never to return. In his absence, Mario converted Al Koopone's Koopa Klub into Mario's Pasta Palace.

| As Al Koopone, King Koopa wore a full-body black business suit. Although he never wore his crown, he did wear an Unzappable Hat as headgear when he robbed the First Mushroom Bank. Al Koopone also had a scar over his left eye, and could sometimes be seen with a cigar in his mouth.
