The Lost World is a secret area and world of Crocodile Isle in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. In both games, the area is guarded by Klubba at his tollbooth, Klubba's Kiosk, as he was ordered by Kaptain K. Rool to do so. The Lost World is the power source of Crocodile Isle. The energy is generated from Krocodile Kore, a temple shaped like a Kremling head integrated into a volcano in the world's central lake. Krocodile Kore also acts like a geothermal vent from sending out an upward stream of purple, white and blue energy. The Lost World has a variety of climates, including jungles, frozen caverns, and volcanic. There are tall, gray, and white-capped rocky hills that encircle the upper part of the location. Unlike other worlds, each level of the Lost World has only one Bonus Level with a Video Game Hero Coin as the prize. In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 2, like the other worlds, the overworld view of the Lost World was redesigned, and shows a wider, zoomed in display of its hosted environments.

While traveling through an area of Crocodile Isle called Crocodile Cauldron Diddy and Dixie Kong encountered a large burly Kremling named Klubba. It seems Klubba had been ordered by Kaptain K. Rool to guard the many entrances of the Lost World and to not let anyone pass under any circumstances, luckily for the Kongs Klubba seemed disgruntled under K. Rool's rule and would kindly let them pass... for the price of fifteen Kremkoins. In order to unlock all five of the Lost World's entrances the Kongs would have to collect all seventy-five Kremkoins scattered about the game's levels.
The Lost World is accessed differently between the two games. In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong can pay 15 Kremkoins to Klubba to access a level of the Lost World in each world, starting from Crocodile Cauldron and ending with K. Rool's Keep. Since the Lost World has five levels, the Kongs must pay 75 Kremkoins in total to access the entire Lost World. In Donkey Kong Land 2, the entire Lost World is instead by paying 47 Kremkoins altogether at the only Klubba's Kiosk in the world map.

The Lost World itself is located inside Crocodile Isle and is fairly large in size. The area also has a bizarre climate, some portions of it being jungle others being volcanic and some frozen caverns. In the center of the Lost World is a large volcano called Krocodile Kore which happens to be shaped like a Kremling's head. Krocodile Kore also, inexplicably pumps out an upward stream of purple, white and blue energy which somehow powers Crocodile Isle.
In the ending of both Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, K. Rool gets launched into the energy flow of Krocodile Kore. He blocks the flow of energy, causing it to build up and eventually explode Krocodile Kore. Diddy and Dixie escape from the Lost World before it and Crocodile Isle sink underwater.

If the Kongs manage to obtain the game's seventy-five Kremkoins and clear all the levels in the Lost World then the mouth of Krocodile Kore will open and the Kongs will be free to venture inside.

Donkey Kong Land 2
Inside the volcano there is a palace, which has an altar, treasure and armored Kremling statues in the background of it. It is here in this ancient palace that Diddy and Dixie Kong faced the mad K. Rool and, after a long fight (which consists mostly of dodging blasts from K. Rool's blunderbuss) the Kongs managed to defeat the Kremling king who was then flung into the energy flow of Krocodile Kore. K. Rool's bulk ended up blocking the volcanoe's flow of energy, which subsequently built up. Eventually Krocodile Kore exploded due to excess energy build up, this explosion ended blowing off the top of the island and sinking the rest of it.

In Donkey Kong Land 2 the Lost World is risen up from the bottom of the ocean along with the rest of Crocodile Isle. This time there is only one entrance to the Lost World, it is located near Gloomy Gulch. This time around Diddy and Dixie needed to pay Klubba all forty-seven Kremkoins at once to enter the Lost World. After paying Klubba and entering and clearing all of the Lost World's levels the kongs get the chance to once again enter Krocodile Kore (which no longer pumps out energy). Once again K. Rool is defeated and Crocodile Island gets sent to the bottom of the sea, this time permanently.
Appearances in other media
The German Donkey Kong comic Bumm-Badabumm im Urwald featured a place called the "Lost Land". Despite being located on Donkey Kong Island, the Lost Land was seemingly the Bumm-Badabumm im Urwald version of the Lost World, as it is filled with ancient Kremling ruins and it is where the Kongs have their battle against Kaptain K. Rool.

Trivia
Trivia
*The manual for Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest states that the Lost World may be the place of origin to the Kremlings.
*The name could be a reference to the The Lost World (Conan Doyle novel) of the same name, its The Lost World (1925 film), or the The Lost World (Crichton novel), released a few months prior to Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. However, the idea of an underground jungle seems to be borrowed from Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.
*Another secret area called the "Lost World" appears in Donkey Kong Land III.
