Lava Tide is a type of harmful hazard where lava moves up or down in the Super Mario franchise.

History

Super Mario series

New Super Mario Bros.

Lava Tides debuts in New Super Mario Bros. only appearing in World 4-Tower and World 8-6 where it rises up.

Super Mario Galaxy

Melty Molten Galaxy
Lava Tide at the Lava Sea Planet

In Super Mario Galaxy, Lava Tides appear in Freezeflame Galaxy and Melty Molten Galaxy, where it rises and falls. Also the first game to introduce falling lava tides.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Lava Tides rise up constantly in World 8-6 (New Super Mario Bros. Wii) and drains in World 8-Bowser's Castle once the ! Switch is activated.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

In New Super Mario Bros. 2, Lava Tides appear in World 5-Tower, World 6-Bowser Castle, and World Star-Castle where it only rises up.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

In New Super Mario Bros. U, Lava Tides appear in only one level Rising Tides of Lava.

In New Super Luigi U, Lava Tides appear in Current Event.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

In Super Mario 3D World, Lava Tides only appear in Simmering Lava Lake and Captain Toad's Fiery Finale where it rises and falls.

Super Mario Maker 2

In Super Mario Maker 2, the player can set the level and change the speed of Lava Tides.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Lava Tides only appear during the Draggadon boss levels, where lava rises up constantly.
