Monita is a robotic creature who is the host of Nintendo Land for the Wii U. It has a feminine voice and is designed to be female (although it is a robot and therefore has no real gender). When the game is first played, Monita is trapped in a ? Block and the player must tap it on the Wii U GamePad to free it. It then teaches the player's Mii the basic controls in the hub world. After this, the Central Tower is revealed and the player is able to access all the attractions. It also appears to congratulate the player on their achievements or give tutorials for the attractions. In some attractions, such as Luigi's Ghost Mansion, it fulfills the role of the player character when the number of players is not the maximum of five.

Monita also has her own Dark Counterpart called Dark Monita, who looks identical to the real Monita except for the fact that Dark Monita wears a jester hat. Dark Monita appears in the games Pikmin Adventure and Metroid Blast to summon monsters for the player to fight. Even though Monita (probably sarcastically) calls Dark Monita an "Evil Overlord" and "the toughest enemy that the player will face", Dark Monita doesn't seem to actually be evil and it just tries to give the players a challenge.

Trivia
*Although Monita is clearly a robot, it is referred to as a "she" in certain parts of the game. She also plays the role of a princess/femme fatale in Takamaru's Ninja Castle
*It seems that Dark Monita is a parody of other Nintendo "Evil Doppelgangers" as they all also look mostly identical to the main character except for small details or a change in color.
*Its name comes from the word "monitor" as well as the female name "Monica".
*Its voice is very similar to F.L.U.D.D.'s.
*Monita's only actual appearances in all of Nintendo Land's games is Luigi's Ghost Mansion in which it acts as an AI ally to the Ghost Tracker players and in Takamaru's Ninja Castle in which it both plays the role as a princess and as a obstacle in the later levels.
