The Compass is an item in the PC release of Mario's Time Machine. It is an instrument used for measuring ratios and proportions, although it more closely resembles a compass used for drawing circles rather than the proportional compass that it is supposed to be. It is given to Mario by a mathematics student of Galileo Galilei, who claims that Galileo perfected its design after Mario brings up that Galileo is known for being an inventor. Mario can then give it to a wandering poet, who asks for some sort of compensation to continue talking. Once the poet has the Compass, he praises how Mario has given him a tool for measurement, and continues to talk about how Galileo uses mathematics in conjunction with astronomy.
