Hello, please remember to sign any comments you make on talk pages with ~~~~ at the end. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 07:22, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

Please do not post forum talk on wiki discussion pages like you did on Talk:Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. If you want to chat about certain games, go to our forums. You're also still not signing your comments; please remember to do so or it's hard for users to know who posted it. K.K. The only sort of discussion that is allowed on talk pages is what to do with the article itself. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8

I'm sorry. I still don't know all the rules of the wiki, and I'm really trying to get used to them. Also, when you said I still needed to sign, are you referring to the SM3DW+BF talk page or the list of games talk page? Because I did sign the edits on the latter, and I signed at the end of this edit. Apart from the point, I'm really sorry, please take into account I've only been active for a short amount of time. I will try to stick to the wiki's rules in the future. Wait, actually, for some reason my edit signs say Eastern time, but I live in California, and haven't been out of state in years. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 22:17, January 11, 2021 (EST)

I was referring to the former, yes, but it looked like you just forgot that one time and I didn't notice you did sign in the latter, so that's why I crossed out my comment, sorry about that. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:20, January 11, 2021 (EST)

Hello, JacobH.5840. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, JacobH.5840. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must apply the proper license. A full list of licenses can be found in the file copyright tags category, but the following are the most common:

  • photo - Used for photographs of real-life subjects.
  • art - Used for artwork of something that is not a character.
  • comic-scene - Used for scans of a comic.
  • comic-cover - Used for covers of comic books.
  • tv-screenshot - Used for screenshots of television shows.
  • film-screenshot - Used for screenshots of movies.
  • video-screenshot - Used for other screenshots, such as those from YouTube.

When uploading, select the license from the drop-down box below the summary text box, or add the license manually after uploading or if you're using the upload function from the text editor. For example, artwork of Mario would use character-artwork.

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Don't include multiple copyright templates; choose the one that you feel best fits the file. If you continue uploading files without applying the correct license, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

I realize you uploaded images of Flash games, but whatever is the closest game counterpart will do. You also need to pick a licensing template from the drop-down menu when uploading, in this case being game screenshot. Take a look back at the images you uploaded to see how they've been edited. How do I change the license of the images once I've uploaded them? Also, when you say edited, do you mean edit the license or the image directly. If the latter is the case, then none of those images are edited. They are all raw screenshots. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 15:25, June 4, 2021 (EDT)
You can change the license after uploading by simply editing it in, like I did to the images, for example:
Licensing
game-screenshot
The images themselves are not edited, only their information. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:37, June 4, 2021 (EDT)

Ah ok. But how do I change them now that they're uploaded? Sorry. Forgot to sign. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 16:25, June 4, 2021 (EDT)

Please keep the above information in mind. Take a look back at your previous uploads for examples on what to add. For images you uploaded, you can still edit them by clicking the "edit" tab at the top of the page. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:45, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Help in making a page

Hey, good to see you got your account back. Everything essential in a new article is covered in MarioWiki:Manual of Style, but another way to get an idea for how the article should look is to look at other, similar articles (you can look at some of the articles on Category:Browser Games, like Superstar Shootout). Looking at that and going into detail:

  • Because it's a game, the name should be italicised (Yoshi's Egg Toss), and italic title is placed at the top.
  • The name in the first sentence is bolded (Yoshi's Egg Toss). The first sentences of the article usually provide general information about the game.
  • After that, you describe the game in detail; this can be a new paragraph, or better, create a "Gameplay" section by adding a header (==Gameplay==) and the information under it. If the game is much more large-scale like Donkey Kong Country Barrel Maze, you can even create more sections like "Levels", "Items" etc. If you have a lot of images, you can include a "Gallery" section (Help:Gallery might help), and if you want, you can include the gameplay video's URL under an "External links" section.
  • An infobox (the red box on the right side) is useful for highlighting some of the key details in one place, so that's something that would be worth including.
  • Finally, the article needs navigation templates and categories. As it's related to Yoshi's Island DS and it's a browser game, these go at the bottom:
YIDS
CompGames

Ok! Thanks for letting me know! I'll get to work!--JacobH.5840 (talk) 11:43, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Well, the person who made the video I mentioned responded to my comment and according to him, he recorded the video before flash was discontinued and when there were ways of finding the European Nintendo Microsites. He has no URLs anymore, and he doesn't have it downloaded, so until we can find a way to find it, it seems that his video will be the only piece of media for it for a while. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 12:04, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Well, the page is complete, but how do I add a link to it on the List of Games article?--JacobH.5840 (talk) 13:47, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Just had to edit the link so it'd look like this:
Yoshi's Island DS -- Yoshi's Egg Toss
. Went ahead and did that for ya. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:50, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Ok! Thanks!--JacobH.5840 (talk) 13:55, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Also, just asking, would it be ok if I made pages for all of the other flash games I mentioned in the discussion of the List of Games? There is about 20 of them, and they are official.--JacobH.5840 (talk) 14:25, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Yes. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:05, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Ok then! When I finish them, what should I do?--JacobH.5840 (talk) 17:18, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

Hey, nice work on the articles. For image uploads, please remember to add a license and category as described above. If you're uploading straight from the editor, remember to add the following underneath the description:

Licensing
game-screenshot

Replace "(game title)" with the corresponding game name and "game-screenshot" with something else if it's not a screenshot (see Help:License for the full list; alternatively, you may want to use the Special:Upload function). K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:13, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

Thanks! I only did a couple though, so I still have a lot to go, but I will work on the image licenses right after I finish this reply.--JacobH.5840 (talk) 21:49, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
No problem; be sure to check the history of your articles to see what fixes were made. Remember to italicise every game title, not just the one in the first sentence. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 09:12, July 7, 2021 (EDT)
Got it. I'll be sure to do that for all of the other flash game articles. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 09:38, July 7, 2021 (EDT)

If possible, you may want to crop out parts of your images that aren't part of the game, as they're unnecessary and can be distracting. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:14, July 21, 2021 (EDT)

Are you talking about a specific game where I didn't do that? Because I thought I already was. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 23:40, July 21, 2021 (EDT)
Several of your past uploads still have other windows and your taskbar present, including File:Melonmayhemtitle.png. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 00:56, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
Ah. I'll go fix that. --JacobH.5840 (talk) 03:26, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
Um, for some reason the title image for Mario Memory isn't changing to the cropped version, even though I uploaded the new cropped version and now I messed something up. Can you help me?--JacobH.5840 (talk) 03:58, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
Ok, I fixed the bigger issue, but it's still not changing.--JacobH.5840 (talk) 03:59, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
After you upload a new version of a file, you need to clear your cache to see it (hit CTRL+F5). K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 06:55, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
What's the cache? I've never seen it.--JacobH.5840 (talk) 13:55, July 22, 2021 (EDT)
Oh wait I just tried the CTRL+F5 trick and it worked, so I don't think I need anymore help with the images. Thanks for the help!--JacobH.5840 (talk) 14:00, July 22, 2021 (EDT)

Few more things regarding the content of your articles:

  • Try to avoid linking to the same subject multiple times in a single group of text; just once is enough (see MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Linking, linking, linking!). After linking to Mario, you don't need to link it every time he is mentioned after that.
    • When you do link, make sure it links to the article's name exactly, as we try to avoid redirect links (see MarioWiki:Redirects), or it may lead to the wrong page. For example, Mini-Mario instead links to the technique in the Mario & Luigi series, when it should be Mini Mario (toy), and Toads should be Toad (species). In cases like this, the identifier (the part in parentheses) should be hidden in a piped link, which is done like so: Mini-Mario and Toads (format: Display text). Gameboy Advance is also three words, not two (Game Boy Advance).
  • The reason there are genre links on certain articles is because the Genre page has a section on them (the # in the link links to a specific section, like "Role-playing"). If the Genre page doesn't have the section for the genre of your game, you don't need to link it (e.g. since there is no "Memory" or "Puzzle Rhythm" section, you don't need to type Memory or Puzzle Rhythm, just "Memory" or "Puzzle Rhythm" without the link is fine). If the genre is unclear, you don't need to add "Unclear", you can just leave it blank.

Finally, when uploading new files, you don't need to add all of the license, category etc. details afterwards, you can just add them altogether in the description when you upload, which works the same way. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:27, July 22, 2021 (EDT)

Ok. Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to take it into account when finishing the other Flash/Shockwave game pages! --JacobH.5840 (talk) 23:52, July 22, 2021 (EDT)

I have a little bit of a problem. The next game I'm adding is called "Power Meter", but there's already a page on the wiki named "P-Meter" that's a redirect from Power Meter. How do I name this game? --JacobH.5840 (talk) 16:35, July 25, 2021 (EDT)

The game would then need an identifier, so the article would be named Power Meter (Flash game). K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:26, July 25, 2021 (EDT)
