|Red [[Urchin]]s only found on dry land. It will protract its spines and roll towards Mario if he approaches one. They are immune to spinning or being stomped. They can only be damaged by fire and lava. There is a box-like stone scultupre in Freezeflame Galaxy that continuously expels land Urchins.

Prickly Piranha Plant violently slams its head into the ground in an attempt to crush Mario, just like its purple counterpart. A Spindleburr in Super Mario Galaxy 2
Bee Eater
Plants with retractable spikes which try to strike Bee Mario[note 1] with their bulb.
A Big Paragoomba render cropped from a screenshot.
Big Paragoomba
Gigantic Paragoombas which soar back and forth. They can be defeated with a spin and a kick, just like ordinary Giant Goombas. Although Big Paragoombas technically debuted in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Galaxy 2 marks their first game appearance.
Choppah from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Choppah
Vaguely insect-like creatures with propellers round their necks. Choppahs fly in a straight line either horizontally or vertically, and can only be defeated if Yoshi eats them.
Artwork of Cosmic Clone from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Cosmic Clone
Shadowy clones of Mario which imitate his movement, causing damage and disappearing if they bump into him. When the path forward is revealed (such as by collecting all Star Chips or Purple Coins, or by activating all Flipswitch Panels in the area) Cosmic Clones vanish and produce Star Bits.
Digga
Digga
Drill-nosed creatures which plow through the dirt in a circular pattern. They can easily be defeated with a jump or the Spin Drill. Diggas also appear in Digga-Leg's boss fight, where it shoots them out of its underside.
An Elite Octoomba
Elite Octoomba
Green Octoombas which consecutively shoot two rocks. Elite Octoombas can be defeated by a stomp or a spin, just like their weaker relatives.
Fizzlit.png
Fizzlit
Rubbery purple creatures which flatten to generate a puddle of electricity around them. Fizzlits can be defeated with a stomp or a spin.
Artwork of Flaptack from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Flaptack
Rotund blue birds with a single horn on their head. Flaptacks ram their heads into the ground with their horn in an attempt to hit Mario, causing them to get stuck if they miss. They can either be kicked or stomped on in this state.
SMG2 Flomp.png
Flomp
Thwomp-like panels which can be used as platforms. Flomps periodically flip over in an attempt to throw Mario into a pit of lava.
An open Trapdragon in Super Mario Galaxy 2
Flower Mimic
Carnivorous plants which can be used as platforms. Flower Mimics prepare to swallow Mario with their rubbery mouths if he does not jump off in time. Mario is damaged and spat out if ingested.
Artwork of Gummit from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Gummit
Green, vaguely mole-like creatures which appear in The Chimp's ice-themed challenges. Gummits are harmless, but need to be bumped into and defeated in order to earn points to complete The Chimp's challenges. The green Gummits offer 10 points when bumped into.
Artwork of Gold Gummit from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Golden Gummit
Gold versions of Gummits, which offer 50 points when bumped into. They appear less frequently than their green relatives.
Kleptoad art
Kleptoad
Blue frog-like creatures which dig out of the ground, spawning infinitely. Kleptoads steal coins and Silver Stars, carrying them above their heads. They can be defeated by having Yoshi eat them or by jumping on their heads.
Magmaargh artwork from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Magmaargh
Gigantic lava monsters which appear out of lava and bite down at whatever lies in front of them. Magmaarghs are made entirely out of liquid and thus can pass through solid objects.
Magmaw artwork from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Magmaw
Smaller relatives of Magmaarghs which stride through the lava, engulfing stone planetoids in their mouths. Magmaws can pass through solid rocks due to their liquid nature.
Mattermouth artwork
Mattermouth
Reptilian skulls which eat through the ground. The eaten ground shortly regenerates after the Mattermouth passes. Jumping on a Mattermouth causes them to turn around and eat the floor in the opposite direction.
Octoboo's art
Octoboo
Undead Octoombas which move around in a set pattern. Octoboos are invincible and always appear in groups. Unlike their living counterparts, they do not spit rocks.
File:Whimp.png
Pattan
Diminutive Whomps which only appear in the Whomp King's boss fight. They are summoned in groups of three or five and chase Mario, falling flat on their faces in an attempt to crush him. Pattans only take a single point of Mario's health and disintegrate upon falling down to attack.
Prickly Piranha Plant
Prickly Piranha Plant
A black Spiny Piranha Plant with extra spikes on its head, granting it immunity to being stomped. Prickly Piranha Plant violently slams its head into the ground in an attempt to crush Mario, just like its purple counterpart. It can only be defeated by spinning a rubbery bulb at it, when its head is stuck in the ground.
