Ice Blocks are frozen versions of regular Blocks in Super Mario Bros. 3. They're the only blocks that can be used as weapons, by either the player or enemies. If a Buster Beetle gets its hands on one, it will throw it at high speeds towards Mario or Luigi. If one of the plumbers picks one up, he can only hold it for a short time before it disappears. In Super Mario World, they can be picked up and will also disappear after a short time.

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they cannot be picked up, but can be melted by Fire Watermelons. The Yoshis should think ahead, as some Ice Blocks hide items.
