This article is about Ostro the ostrich. For Birdo, the enemy that got put as Ostro in the credits of Super Mario Bros. 2, go here.
Ostros were ostriches that Shy Guys could ride in Super Mario Bros. 2. They hop along the ground and run back and forth when they don't have a rider. Players can jump on top of an Ostro an ride it across obstacles if it doesn't have a Shy Guy rider.
Appearances in Other Media
Several Ostro, though not referred to as such, appear in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Butch Mario & the Luigi Kid / All Steamed Up". Here, Ostro were used by Mario, Luigi and several other characters as steeds to travel through the Wild West.
Trivia
- In the credits of Super Mario Bros. 2, Ostro's and Birdo's names were switched. This, like many other mistakes, was fixed in remakes of the game.
