Two things

 1. This page looks in need of an archive.
 2. Can you change the Wikirby link in the sidebar to http://www.wikirby.us/ DoctorPain99 DoctorPain99.png 18:03, 14 August 2013 (EDT)

Hello.

Do you think we should have a DK Wiki email account similar to SmashWiki's for NIWA mailing list purposes? Or would you rather simply use your personal email or my personal email for the mailing list and have whichever one of us share information with the other admins instead? Wiki Inactivity

I was wondering one thing: why is this wiki not very active? It appeared to be more active a couple of years back. Atari Jaguar (talk) 21:36, 27 May 2014 (EDT)

To answer on Havoc's behalf, the majority of the community was fueled by a few users who attracted some minor people who came to edit. Havoc kinda just got busy with life, a few of those key users left, and I also became occupied with things in my own life. Activity died down because of that, but I'm thinking about expanding the Wiki's focus in an attempt to revive it. MegaTron1:p 00:15, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
That's good that you are trying to revive this wiki. I'll see how I can help. :) Atari Jaguar (talk) 12:41, 30 May 2014 (EDT)
Well, yeah, Mega summed it up pretty well. Life got in the way for me, Forgotten Beast and other "regulars" faded into obscurity, and the rest of NIWA in general died out with the exceptions being MarioWiki, ZeldaWiki, Bulbapedia, and SmashWiki, from what I can tell. Even NIWA's Nintendo Wiki is dead (seriously, when has the Featured Article ever been changed?). School's over soon, fortunately, so I should be able to be around more often. For the time being it is mostly checkups. When I resume activity I should be addressing Tropical Freeze levels and eventually go back to the Donkey Kong Land level articles. I actually have acquired a Wii U and TF, and have been playing when I get free time. --HavocReaper48 23:42, 1 June 2014 (EDT)

Partnership/Agreement with StrategyWiki

On your revision of Template:Game-infobox on 03:58, 4 December 2010[1], you added a strategy parameter that would include a link to the corresponding walkthrough on StrategyWiki in the infobox. Is there any sort of link exchange agreement between Donkey Kong Wiki and StrategyWiki that would allow this parameter, or was this done with no agreement? --The Retro Gamer 20:28, 1 July 2014 (EDT)

They're our NIWA affiliate. We link to them, they link to us in their articles as well. All NIWA wikis usually link to each other when possible.--HavocReaper48 23:45, 2 July 2014 (EDT)

Hello, There

Hey there. I have some stuff marked for speedy deletion. If you could take care of them, I'd love that. Link. Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:11, 29 July 2014 (EDT)

Any other issues I can tackle? --HavocReaper48 18:15, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
Well, I was wondering if the wiki should have a Bot for large, yet simple wiki tasks (e.g. replacing a widely used category). Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:17, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
I don't know how to make bots. If you or you someone you know can, then I suppose it'd be alright, though for what specific category did you have in mind? --HavocReaper48 18:18, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
I thought for a while that the Category:Donkey Kong Country 2 and Category:Donkey Kong Country 3 categories should include their subtitles in them. I also think you create an account, promote it to Bot and use a program like AutoWikiBrowser to use it. I know for a fact that it should be carefully used, as it is a sensitive program. Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:22, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
I just looked at the wikipedia page on it and it says it is for Windows... I only have my Mac. --HavocReaper48 18:38, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
As I mentioned on The Retro Gamer's talk page, I believe that there should be a sprite image license. I also believe that Template:Fairuse should be overwritten by these templates. You can make these changes on this MediaWiki page: MediaWiki:Licenses. Atari Jaguar (talk) 22:54, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
What's wrong with GameScreenshot ? --HavocReaper48 23:37, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
There's nothing wrong with it. I'm trying to tell you to have there be a GameScreenshot and a GameSprite template, the latter being added to MediaWiki:Licenses after creation. Could you please do this, as only administrators can add to MediaWiki pages? Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:59, 30 July 2014 (EDT)

Image categories

Me and The Retro Gamer have both decided that the image categories will be replaced by the game name's category (e.g. Donkey Kong Country). I suggest that you take a look at the image categories once they are marked for speedy deletion. Atari Jaguar (talk) 14:51, 2 August 2014 (EDT)

Pardon a lot of me and The Retro Gamer's edits. We're really making an effort to improve the wiki. There are two things you might want to check out: admin rank request, suggested by Retro Gamer and the usual: Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. Atari Jaguar (talk) 23:06, 7 August 2014 (EDT)
I honestly don't think we need another admin around, sorry. An additional admin wouldn't be necessary -- we have no other issues other than speedy deletions clogging up when I don't check the wiki for a day or two. When more issues arise, though, I'd consider it. --HavocReaper48 14:57, 10 August 2014 (EDT)
I'm kind of the one responsible for the speedy deletion tags, as I replaced many images on this wiki. Sorry about that. Atari Jaguar (talk) 15:04, 10 August 2014 (EDT)

Bot account registration

Hi. I would like this account I created to be registered as a bot so that it doesn't show up in the recent changes and clog it up with bot edits. It wouldn't quite be a bot, it would be semi-automated but I don't think it should show up in recent changes. -The Retro Gamer (talk) 08:50, 10 August 2014 (EDT)

Done. --HavocReaper48 14:57, 10 August 2014 (EDT)

Active Users List

Something appears to be wrong with either Special:ActiveUsers or Special:Statistics. If you compare statistics to active users, statistics shows 7 active users, while active users only shows 5. -The Retro Gamer (talk) 18:18, 13 August 2014 (EDT)

That is weird and I don't know how to fix that. --HavocReaper48 23:51, 13 August 2014 (EDT)

A Move Infobox

Is there a way you can create a move infobox for articles like Rocketbarrel Boost? I'm not very experienced at creating infoboxes. Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:39, 16 August 2014 (EDT)

On it. --HavocReaper48 23:32, 16 August 2014 (EDT)
Finished. I couldn't think of any more parameters, so feel free to tinker with the template and add some more. If you get confused while editing the template, just remember to look for patterns within the info box design. --HavocReaper48 23:43, 16 August 2014 (EDT)
I do think the infobox should support Donkey Kong 64-related moves. That should give you some ideas. You just seem to be more experienced than me at this. Atari Jaguar (talk) 00:12, 17 August 2014 (EDT)

What do you think about NinelevendoSucks?

He's a new user, but he was banned on Super Mario Wiki. Take a look at what got him banned. The Retro Gamer (talk) 15:32, 23 August 2014 (EDT)

He hasn't done anything ban-worthy yet on here. The worst he's done is not signing. As long as he doesn't drag off wiki drama here or start anything it should be fine. --HavocReaper48 16:51, 23 August 2014 (EDT)

Hey

If you have time, can you take a look at this, please? DoctorPain99 21:57, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

Concerns

Do you think this user page should be deleted because it's an advertisement? - --The Retro Gamer

Well, DKWiki doesn't really have any user page policies that would prevent that, I suppose that would be considered spam, but its on a user page so he isn't really doing any harm. --HavocReaper48 17:32, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
Perhaps we should add some policies at some point. When you look at Super Mario Wiki, you can see how many policies they have, giving them more structure, although they also appear to have less freedom. I like having freedom, but I also think some more structure and rules should be added to this wiki. - --The Retro Gamer
21:40, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
Honestly, the reason why DKWiki isn't brimmed with policies akin to other wikis is because we rarely face their issues as much due to being a smaller community. --HavocReaper48 22:01, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
That is true, we are much smaller, so we don't need as many policies because there aren't as many problems. Also, that is what happens when I try that.-> <font color=red>The</font> <font color=green>Retro</font> <font color=blue>Gamer</font>(talk) 22:07, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
I still need help with my sig... If you could help, that would be nice. --The Retro Gamer 18:46, 17 September 2014 (EDT)
I'm pretty sure you have to use:
<span style="color:colornamehere;">Text Goes Here</span>
to declare your signature's color. Atari Jaguar (talk) 19:56, 17 September 2014 (EDT)
Font is not the problem, font is simpler tag replacement for span style. It's the [] that are causing trouble (and the talk and contribs links.) --The Retro Gamer 19:15, 18 September 2014 (EDT)

Signature Help

I was wondering how I could get my signature to appear when I type in ~~~~ and how I could fix the timestamp? --The Retro Gamer 21:48, 10 September 2014 (EDT)

Copy
<font color=red>The</font> <font color=green>Retro</font> <font color=blue>Gamer</font>
into the "Signature" section of Preferences --HavocReaper48 22:01, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
I still need help with my signature. When I copied your code, this happened: --The Retro Gamer 18:02, 10 November 2014 (EST)

Table template

Hello, can you please create some template templates, given that I cannot create templates? So I think there should be a table template to support these other templates: a table header template, a starting table cell, and a table cell template in general. For example: Wikisimpsons's Table template and its sub-templates.

Oh, and I think a minigame infobox will also benefit the wiki. Atari Jaguar (talk) 18:19, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Personally I don't like the concept of template templates, I feel its always better to have complete control over a template's design. Learning templates isn't that bad, just copy and paste a template's code and toy around with the values a bit, really. You can add some template templates if you wish. As for the mini game info box, I'll work on it. --HavocReaper48 20:56, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
It honestly just feels more consistent to have some table template so that code space can be saved and it's easier for beginners to use. Atari Jaguar (talk) 21:42, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
That's also true, I suppose. Does this template template need to cater towards info boxes exclusively or do you also need a navbox one? --HavocReaper48 22:07, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
Do you see the table in this page in the DK64 article improvement section: DKWiki:Sandbox? I'm catering toward those tables for a header, cell, and such. I linked to you an example of an existing table template & its sub-templates I had in mind to Wikisimpsons. (refer to link above). As for the infoboxes & navboxes, I suppose they would be helpful, as they would keep a good format, but I'm currently focusing on the tables, as they are used in the mainspace. Atari Jaguar (talk) 22:12, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

Sorry, college life, I intend to be more active towards January. --HavocReaper48 20:22, 11 November 2014 (EST)

Thanks so much for developing this table. And a lot of users online now. Me and Retro are really trying to improve this wiki. And Dixie_kong123 looks like she's a new community member. :) Atari Jaguar (talk) 20:53, 11 November 2014 (EST)

About my signature...

I don't want to pester, but you appear to have either not seen my repeated comments or ignored them. If you can help me get my signature the way I want it, then explain; otherwise tell me you don't know how to fix up my sig. --The Retro Gamer 20:02, 11 November 2014 (EST)

For some reason the " ", "<", and ">" are all seen as variations of "&#62" in the coding for the second sig. Just copying the coding from your template and put it in "New signature" in Special:Preferences --HavocReaper48 20:22, 11 November 2014 (EST)
I'm unsure what you mean. The current code for my signature is copied from my template exactly as you described. But I still seem to have a problem. --The Retro Gamer 20:35, 11 November 2014 (EST)

Attempt

<span style="color:red;">- The</span> <span style="color:green;">Retro</span> <span style="color:blue;">Gamer</span>

--HavocReaper48 20:53, 11 November 2014 (EST)

Here's my try, but I believe it's the "[]" causing the trouble. The preferences part doesn't want a link, because it's only for the signature, not for talk and contribs page links. Nice new signature, by the way. My attempt: <span style="color:red;">- The</span> <span style="color:green;">Retro</span> <span style="color:blue;">Gamer</span> (talk) 20:58, 11 November 2014 (EST)

So since I couldn't phrase this in wiki here's an image of whats wrong with your sig File:Screen Shot 2014-11-11 at 9.15.58 PM.png I have no clue how "-" becomes "[&#91" after you copy and paste it. That makes zero sense. --HavocReaper48 21:09, 11 November 2014 (EST)

I am not using a phone. It might be my web browser (Mozilla Firefox, I doubt it), but if you want confirmation that I didn't modify it copy it and use for your signature for one comment. The preferences page itself is doing that weird html, not me. Once again, --The Retro Gamer 21:17, 11 November 2014 (EST)
Yeah, you either try a method that doesn't turn "<" and ">" into &#91 or we're out of luck. How did you get your old sig without using "<" and ">"? Otherwise just put an includeonly 5 tildes, <includeonly>~~~~~</includeonly> in the end of your sig template, it makes it so the timestamp is included in the template itself. --HavocReaper48 21:31, 11 November 2014 (EST)
I don't know how to do a method that doesn't involve turning "<>" into &#91. I just copy and paste, and it looks like what I copied after I'm done, but it shows up in wiki code as &#91. I guess I'll use the other method. Anyway, I really appreciate you trying to help; I know you've spent a lot of time on it at this point. --The Retro Gamer

I finally figured out what was wrong: I forgot to check the box that said, "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)." I figured out how it worked when I was looking at Porple's talk, and realized I had made the same mistake with my signature as you had with yours. Thanks for helping, in more ways then just here. --The Retro Gamer 11:55, 28 March 2015 (EDT)

Where did you get this image?

I was wondering because I want to know what created the sprite difference from the screenshots I'm taking. I think my images are the correct type for Super Gameboy, but I would like to know about this image's origin. --The Retro Gamer 16:49, 24 November 2014 (EST)

That is from an online emulator. Idk why the sprites were that way, but I assumed it was a SGB shade. --HavocReaper48 17:51, 24 November 2014 (EST)
I don't believe those are the Super Game Boy sprites for Donkey Kong Land; I think they are actually the emulator's hacks to make it more visually playable. I think the screenshots I took are from the Super Game Boy version, because of this video, and I want to be absolutely certain before I do the work of replacing dozens of images. Am I correct in saying you don't believe your images are correct, and you think mine are? Edit: I figured out where each image is from; mine are from Super Game Boy and yours are from the Game Boy Player. Personally, I like the Super Game Boy images better, although I think I will start uploading a section with both for equality. --The Retro Gamer 18:04, 24 November 2014 (EST)
Excuse me for interrupting, but is your intent to upload both SGB and GB Player sprites and screenshots for comparison? I have nothing against it; I just find it a fine idea from you, Retro. Atari Jaguar (talk) 19:51, 24 November 2014 (EST)
A "fine" idea. I'm unsure what you mean, given the context... Anyway, yes that is my intent; it will allow me to do the levels with DK and Diddy, and show both the terrain and the sprites with the level. --The Retro Gamer 20:15, 24 November 2014 (EST)

You've probably already seen this, but...

I have a request for adminship up right now, and I'll need a bureaucrat to accept it. Since you're the only active bureaucrat, you are the only one who can grant me this privilege, and I strongly encourage you to consider doing so. If you want, I can wait a couple of weeks and see if anyone else but Atari responds, but I doubt anyone else who is familiar with this wiki will make a visit. --The Retro Gamer 15:44, 28 March 2015 (EDT)

I'd give it another day. I'll check on it tomorrow. I don't see why not, though. --HavocReaper48 16:12, 28 March 2015 (EDT)
That's fine. I would do the same in you position. I just wanted to call that to your attention, since you probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't post in on your talk. --The Retro Gamer 16:21, 28 March 2015 (EDT)
