::The current Donkey Kong is the grandson of the original Donkey Kong (aka Cranky Kong). Nintendo has actually gone back and forth (see [http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/kongtroversy.shtml]), but the current stance seems to be that he is the grandson. Snake's codec conversation on Donkey Kong in Brawl confirms that Donkey kong's grandfather was the Kong that kidnapped pauline and fought Mario, and cranky Kong has previously been confirmed to fill this role.  This effectively makes Cranky kong the original Donkey kong, and DK's grandfather, while Donkey Kong Jr. is now officially DK's dad.

As I mentioned in the Donkey Kong discussion section...why does it have to be one or the other? If Cranky is DK's grandfather, but raised him as his son, wouldn't that make him both DK's father and grandfather? In DKCR Cranky says to DK "Make sure to shut the gate on your way out. It really wouldn't make sense for Baby DK to be Cranky Kong. Even given Gorillas' faster aging, Cranky would still need to be at least in his fifties or sixties to look the way he does in modern games. Whereas Mario, Peach, and the others look no older than in their thirties. On the other hand, there really is nothing saying that DK Jr. isn't the same age as Mario (he's actually bigger than Mario is in the original DK Jr. arcade, so he may have been older than we thought he was). - Buddy

That doesn't mean anything. Just because Cranky Kong claims to know how to pull off a technique in DKC doesn't mean he was the playable Kong in DKC. His days as a beloved hero doesn't necessarily mean DKC either.--{{User|Knife}} 22:31, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

That's a joke, referring to how he's like the old grouchy guy who only talks about retro games. Actually the events of other DK games are indirectly mentionned in-game (Cranky refers to how DK's Banana Hoard keeps getting stolen) so it's most likely DKCR Donkey is DKC Donkey. Plus it doesn't matter if Cranky is DK's father or grandfather, as it's a possibility DK's father died and thus Cranky raised him, which explains why he calls him both his son and grandson. That's right, grandfathers also address their own grandsons "son" sometimes. It what happens with uncle/aunt and nephews, elders and youngsters too. But most fans think that it is obviously hinted that he was Donkey Kong's father because of ''Donkey Kong 64'', while he was just Donkey Kong Jr.'s father. Donkey Kong Jr. couldn't possibly be Donkey Kong because he is his father or probably his uncle. Don't mind Junior's appearance. He was like that since Donkey Kong was in the same game. Donkey Kong is the true successor of his grandfather, that's true.

Since Cranky Kong is currently old, it's obvious that Baby Donkey Kong is the modern Donkey Kong. It occurred to me that, since the earlier Donkey Kong technically isn't the same character as the one from ''Donkey Kong Country'' onwards, that it may make more sense to merge any info pertaining to the older, Arcade Donkey Kong from the Donkey Kong article and place it in this one. I'm not sure how others would feel about this drastic a change, though, but it would help keep the two characters separate as per the official final world. ==Move Donkey Kong info to this page==
I believe that we should merge the info from the original Donkey Kong arcade games on Donkey Kong's page to this page because most video games these days such as Mario Superstar Baseball state that Cranky was the original Donkey Kong. Only Super Smash Bros. keeps up the whole Arcade!Donkey Kong and DKC!Donkey Kong are the same guy thing and even then only halfway (the bios state they're the same guy, but Snake's codec call and the Cranky Kong Spirit battle state Cranky's the original DK). If we did, we'd do the games, remakes, Saturday Supercade, Super Mario Odyssey, Pixels and Nintendo Adventure Book Doors to Doom!
