There are seven different flavors of Bean Juice to create. Making each one for the first time is accompanied by a cutscene featuring E. Gadd. [[Wario]], [[Fox|Fox McCloud]], [[Link]], [[Captain Olimar]], [[Samus Aran]], and an [[Excitebike|Excitebike Racer]] were [[List of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga pre-release and unused content|originally planned]] to appear in these cutscenes as cameo appearances, whereas E. Gadd was only supposed to appear once. If all seven drinks are made at least once, E. Gadd will put up a picture of himself next to the counter for the remainder of the game. In the Japanese version of the game and all versions of its remake, icons appear next to drinks the player has already made on the drink menu.

The name of the cafe itself is based on the real-life [[wikipedia:Starbucks|Starbucks]] chain of coffee shops. In ''Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions'', the number of beans required per blend is lower, but the effect of each blend has also been reduced. In the ''Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser'' campaign, it is revealed that E. Gadd created Starbeans as secondary funding for his ghost research. E. Gadd mindlessly admitted this while rambling to [[Captain Goomba (Mario & Luigi series)|Captain Goomba]] and his soldiers, who had already left.

==Special Items==
Every time a drink that has not been made before is created, Professor E. Gadd will enter the cafe and give [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] one of his inventions, usually coupled with a humorous scene. These items can be equipped in the extra equipment slot under Clothes and Badges. As with Clothes and Badges, each of the brothers can only equip one of these items at a time.

There are seven types of Bean Juice and thus seven items that Mario or Luigi can equip. They are given out in a set order, listed below, regardless of the order the drinks are made in. With the exception of the Excite Spring, Power Grip, and Cobalt Necktie, every Accessory affects both brothers, as long as they are together. If a drink is made that has already been made before, or if the brothers have received all seven items, they can still continue to make Bean Juice, but they only obtain the drink itself.
