The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, commonly abbreviated SNES or simply Super Nintendo (known in Japan as Super Famicom) is a gaming system released by Nintendo in 1990 in Japan and was released in North America in 1991. It is the successor to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and is claimed as a revolutionary system due to its leap of higher quality games. The Super NES exhibited new ways of graphical design, innovation, and gameplay.

This system was home to the Donkey Kong Country original trilogy. These games helped showcase the SNES's graphical capabilities thanks to Rare's use of pre-rendered graphics and "Mode-7" technology.
