'''Luigi Circuit''' is the introductory track of ''[[Mario Kart Wii]]'', serving as the first race of the [[Mushroom Cup]]. It is a fairly simple course with no hazards and features a large boosted turn approaching the finish line, and is the shortest Wii course in the game, making it perfect for first-time players. This course can also be seen at sunset during the credits. It shares its music with [[Mario Circuit (Mario Kart Wii)|Mario Circuit]], and an arrangement of it is heard in the title theme, demo movie, options menu, [[Block Plaza]], Award Ceremony, and second half of the credits music. The course's overall layout resembles the Grand Prix layout of the real-life {{wp|Monza Circuit}} in Italy, though Luigi Circuit is shorter and does not feature chicanes. This is the last [[Luigi]]-themed [[new course]] in the series and the only one that has yet to reappear as a [[classic course]] in a future ''Mario Kart'' game.

==Course layout==

The course starts with a brief straightaway where racers encounter the first set of [[Item Box]]es. There is then a turn to the right, followed by a short straight segment and a gentle left turn followed by a U-turn to the right. This section resembles the first sector of the Monza F1 track without the chicanes. In the middle of the U-turn is the second item set. This is followed by a longer straight with another gentle left turn, resembling the Variante Ascari chicane in the real life Monza track (as if the chicane had not been taken by F1 cars). There is then the last item set, followed by a large U-turn, with the outer half of the road having numerous consecutive [[Dash Panel|dash panels]] and being slanted upwards, and then the last straight segment (this resembles Curva Parabolica, the final corner of the Monza track). A secondary stretch of road is present along the edge of this U-turn to catch any racers that may fly off the main route. After the last straight segment, racers reach the finish line.

Visually, the race starts out in front of a large crowd stand full of [[Toad (species)|Toads]], [[Hammer Bro]]s., [[Shy Guy]]s, [[Birdo]]s, [[Goomba]]s, [[Monty Mole]]s, [[Boo]]s and [[Mii]], with a [[Luigi Cap]] on top, similar to that seen in the ''[[Mario Kart 64]]'' [[N64 Luigi Raceway|version]] of the course. Several garage buildings, more spectating Miis and a giant statue of [[Luigi]] appear on the right of the [[Finish Line (object)|Finish Line]]. A [[Cheep Cheep]]-shaped balloon can be seen flying overhead which takes off from the landing platform in the middle of the lake. Hills similar to those seen in ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]'' can be seen in the background. If a player is racing as a Mii or during the staff credits, the head of the Luigi statue and Luigi's face on some of the Luigi Circuit signs will be replaced with heads of random Miis from the player's system, or in the case of in the staff credits, the head on the Luigi statue is changed to the Mii the player selected for their license regardless of if the player's Mii was in the race or not.

==Shortcuts==
The first notable shortcut can be found to the left of the straight approaching the dash panel section, where there is a large amount of sand and a simple ramp placed near the track. A pair of Item Boxes can be found atop this ramp. Only one [[Dash Mushroom|Mushroom]] is required to reach the ramp, but if the player has other speed boosting items they may drive to the left of the ramp to cut off more of the turn.

The second notable shortcut can be found immediately after, where the final U-turn can be cut off by driving through the sand. This time, there are some [[Warp Pipe|pipes]] in the sand that can thwart racers. If done correctly, only one Mushroom is required to cut off the entire turn.

==Staff ghosts==
The normal staff ghost for Luigi Circuit has a time of 1:29.670, using Luigi in the [[B Dasher Mk. 2|Sprinter]]. The expert staff ghost is unlocked if the player gets a time of 1:26.394 or less, with a time of 1:19.419 using Luigi on the [[Mach Bike]]. The expert staff ghost for this course is the only one in the game that uses a slower vehicle than their respective regular staff ghost.

==World Record==
The World Record for Luigi Circuit is by Cole with a time of 1:08.774. Cole claims World Record by using a combo of [[Funky Kong]] and [[Spear]] for its speed stat. For all three laps, Cole did the ending shortcut by using one Mushroom and cut very inside, then, he find a good angle toward the finish line and finished a lap.

Three different tournaments took place on Luigi Circuit.
===Tournament 1===
[[List of Mario Kart Wii tournaments#October 2008 Tournament 2|October 2008's second tournament]] required players to complete a GP race on Luigi Circuit. However, neither players nor the CPUs have access to any items, making it impossible to flip or spin out. Controls were restricted to Wii Wheel users only and vehicles were restricted to karts only. The tournament was later repeated as the second tournament of October 2010.

===Tournament 2===
[[List of Mario Kart Wii tournaments#May 2009 Tournament 1|May 2009's first tournament]] required players to complete a GP race on the sunset version of Luigi Circuit that is otherwise seen in the credits. However, six [[Bob-omb Car]]s from [[Moonview Highway]] are now present on the track and all travel the course in reverse.
