's been a long while since a new topic came into discussion.

As many of the remaining members are aware, DK Wiki activity has been dying out lately, and this is partially caused by our lack of unique content in comparison to Mario Wiki. In an attempt to both revive interest in the Wiki and better differentiate DK Wiki content from Mario Wiki content, I believe that, as a Wiki, we need to find more specific things to cover. A better niche for us, so to speak. Covering more content like famous blatant rip-off games or finding more to discuss when it comes to levels so that we can cover content beyond Mario Wiki's focus. So, I'm opening the niche suggestions to the public. If you can think of a thing that DK Wiki can do to differentiate us from Mario Wiki and draw in interest, please state such things below. I was actually planning to do wiki maintenance this weekend, so you've got a helper. I would agree on covering the pirated games (we already have Super Donkey Kong 2). I also think we should add articles about Donkey Kong merchandise from over the years. I also uploaded multiple images different than that of Super Mario Wiki's. I have rewritten a few articles around my time here too (ex. Fire Necky). That's all of my input. Atari Jaguar (talk) 20:08, 30 May 2014 (EDT)
I've noticed that many articles irrelevant to the original three DKC games have not seemed to be created as of yet. Atari Jaguar (talk) 17:14, 1 June 2014 (EDT)
We could also include some of the more well known rom hacks for the original DKC games if we wanted to have some unique content related to Donkey Kong. The Retro Gamer (talk) 08:26, 23 August 2014 (EDT)
If you do link those on the pages, it will have to be IPS patches. The actual DKC ROMs are illegal content. Atari Jaguar (talk) 12:05, 23 August 2014 (EDT)
That is exactly what I was thinking link-wise (at least until the copyrights expire on the original Donkey Kong Country ROM in 76 years). DKC Atlas has a bunch of IPS Patch ROM hacks. I'm familiar with a few of them, and I could probably make pages on them. The Retro Gamer (talk) 13:18, 23 August 2014 (EDT)
I think you can go ahead an do that. After all, Havoc will probably not mind, as he allows articles on pirated DK games. Atari Jaguar (talk) 13:38, 23 August 2014 (EDT)
I do like the idea of including ROM hacks on this wiki. I had considered for a long time about posting the English patch of the GBC version of Donkey Kong Land III (either as a brief mention on the DKL3 article or its own page, more likely the former), but I've been too hesitant because I didn't know if that was OK to mention here. --Blaziken257 00:14, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
How exactly would it be a full article? I think a section in DKL3 would suffice. --HavocReaper48 02:53, 6 September 2014 (EDT)

This may sound like a strange idea, but perhaps individual song (with wordless music) articles should be made to tell the style and level appearances of certain songs, as well as remakes of the songs. The advantages of this idea would be that there would be music pages to link to link to in the level infoboxes, as well as a place containing all of the music's appearances. The disadvantages of this idea would be that the wiki would probably end up with many tiny articles. The reason I propose this instead of a place for each game's music is because some music overlaps and whole game pages may get clogged up with some general information about the music, while music pages could get more specific and explain the style. -The Retro Gamer (talk) 19:39, 3 September 2014 (EDT)

I'm not quite following. Sorry... What I got out is: you want to create some music pages (like Forest Interlude), but then not other unnotable tunes/songs. I hope I'm correct here, because I'd support that idea. Atari Jaguar (talk) 00:11, 4 September 2014 (EDT)
Sorry, I was a bit tired yesterday. I was thinking that a page should be made for each piece of named music (including ones without lyrics). -The Retro Gamer (talk) 16:58, 4 September 2014 (EDT)
Mini articles for each song? Why not one big page for the soundtracks, e.g. "Donkey Kong Country/Soundtrack". Basically, the page would have the composers, a table for the song names, summary of when each song is used, and .mp3's of the music. --HavocReaper48 02:53, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
Well, that would would work... but we can't upload .mp3's, only .ogg's can be uploaded (Ex: File:DKC Life in the Mines.ogg) Personally I would like to have support for .spc's but we need to add support for mp3's. My reasons behind suggesting individual pages instead of collective pages are as follows: I think we could go into greater depth about the style, composition, and remakes of the music with individual music pages. I also want to include things such as fanmade sheet music and such. I would like to have search terms such as "Life in the Mines" link somewhere. I agree with the idea to create pages such as "Donkey Kong Country/Soundtrack", but I would like to include greater detail in song pages. -The Retro Gamer (talk) 08:11, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
On a different topic, some pages should be created for each type of terrain in Donkey Kong games. That is one area of content that would make us unique from Mario Wiki. -The Retro Gamer (talk) 17:56, 7 September 2014 (EDT)

Why are there 2 Donkey Kong wikis? And why did the founder of the 2nd one decide to create it if there already was a Donkey Kong wiki? Not only that, but the Mario wiki has also taken it upon itself to document all things Donkey Kong. So now we have 3 wikis that are dedicated Donkey Kong wikis. Why? Isn't this all really redundant and unnecessary? --Reversalmushroom (talk) 04:07, 16 May 2015 (EDT)

The Donkey Kong series is a major spinoff of the Mario series. When people go on to the Super Mario Wiki they search for Mario-related material. While Donkey Kong material is also on that wiki, it is pretty much overcast by the Mario material there.
As for Donkey Kong Wikia, this wiki forked from it back in late 2010. Obviously Wikia would not want to shut down Donkey Kong Wikia. Atari Jaguar (talk) 13:06, 16 May 2015 (EDT)
If the other wiki existed first, then why make a 2nd one?--73.171.181.121 08:00, 19 May 2015 (EDT)
The community, I believe, disliked Wikia as they unveiled their new wiki skin back in 2010. In response, the community forked to this wiki host. Atari Jaguar (talk) 12:35, 19 May 2015 (EDT)
