'''Durmite X''' is a boss that appears in [[the Gauntlet]] in ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]'' and its remake, ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey]]''. It is a stronger variation of [[Durmite]] that can only be fought after she has been defeated. Durmite X is Class 1 of the Gauntlet and initially costs 200 [[coin]]s to fight, with a recommended minimum level of 18; [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] have only 5 turns to defeat her. Winning the battle for the first time awards them with 1000 coins in the original game; the reward is 600 coins and the [[Sequel Scarf]] in the remake.

Durmite X also appears as part of Class 7 with the same stats, fought as the first of its seven bosses.

==Battle==

Like the other X bosses in the Gauntlet, Durmite X uses the same attack patterns as her base form; she may attack multiple times per turn, with the attacks coming faster and dealing more damage.

Durmite X lines up with Mario or Luigi and pulls back, lighting up her body segments before she launches herself straight at one of them; the speed at which she charges varies, and the target brother must counter the attack using their [[hammer]]. Durmite X also spits a sticky string from her snout and sweeps it at the Mario Bros., who must dodge by [[jump]]ing over the string as it picks up more speed. If Mario or Luigi are caught, Durmite X pulls them into her mouth, then lines up with the other brother and ejects her victim from either her back end or mouth. If she spits one brother directly at the other, they must dodge by jumping; if she spits them overhead, they must remain still. Being hit by either part of the attack does significant damage and potentially inflicts the [[SPD-Down]] or [[POW-Down]] status effects; if Mario or Luigi is caught and spat out, stomping on them while dodging with the other does no damage in the original, but does minor damage to them in the remake. If Durmite X KOs one of the Mario Bros. with the first part of the move, she simply ends the attack there and spits them back out.

Every few turns on average, up to three [[Biffidus X|Biffiduses X]] may appear, and attack as regular [[Biffidus]]es do: they each point their spears forward and charge at one of the Bros., who can dodge and counter by jumping. If any of the Biffidus X are present during Durmite X's turn, she may eat them all and shoot their spears from her snout at Mario and Luigi, with each spear pointed towards its target; the spears come at a much faster rate, and must be avoided by jumping. As with their base forms, Biffiduses X move out of the way for Durmite X's other attacks, going off-screen in the remake; if the boss is defeated with any Biffiduses X present, they jab at her from a distance during the defeat animation until the explosion of stars blows them away.

Durmite X may produce her proboscis-like straw at the end of any turn including the first after taking damage. The straw is now green, and she uses it to heal 80 [[Heart Point|HP]] during her next turn and each turn after; destroying the straw prevents Durmite X from healing. Defeating Durmite X with the straw present destroys it before her death animation plays.

It is possible to defeat Durmite X in one turn before she produces the straw. If the Bros. have a high attack power, using the [[Green Shell]] with a high [[Stache]] level can possibly result in dealing more than 1000 damage in one turn.
