The wiki makes no guarantee of validity

The Super Mario Wiki is an online open-content collaborative encyclopedia, that is, a voluntary association of individuals and groups working to develop a common resource of knowledge. The structure of the project allows anyone with an Internet connection to alter its content. Please be advised that nothing found here has necessarily been reviewed by people with the expertise required to provide you with complete, accurate, or reliable information.

That is not to say that you will not find valuable and accurate information on the Super Mario Wiki; much of the time, you will. However, the Super Mario Wiki cannot guarantee the validity of the information found here. The content of any given article may have recently been changed, vandalized, or altered by someone whose opinion does not correspond with the state of knowledge in the relevant area. Note that most other encyclopedias and reference works also have similar disclaimers.

The wiki contains copyrighted material

The Super Mario Wiki asserts that its use of any copyrighted material constitutes as fair use under United States copyright law. The text of the Super Mario Wiki is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license, and in some cases, the GNU Free Documentation License 1.2.

By editing the wiki, you agree to license any text you add under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. This text may be redistributed or adapted by the general public for any use as long as it is released under a similar license and the contributing authors are attributed. Our authors must agree to be credited through either a list of contributors or a link back to the original article, keeping in mind that the wiki logs all contributions.

The wiki is not private

All information found on the Super Mario Wiki is public, including anything you add to an article or on a user page about yourself. In essence, you are publishing all information that you add when posting to the site.

The Super Mario Wiki does not require the collection of personal information from its users. Providing the Super Mario Wiki with your real name and/or email address is optional. Your IP address will be made public only if you edit without logging in for the sake of attributing those edits. Create an account or do not edit if you do not want your IP address to be made public. If you post personally-identifiable information (e.g. name, location, birthday) and you wish to have it removed, the Super Mario Wiki will work with you to remove it.

The wiki contains spoilers

The Super Mario Wiki maintains the policy of documenting all information about the Super Mario franchise in an "omniscient" point of view. When using the Super Mario Wiki, you will find that every article contains as complete and thorough information as is possible. If you do not wish to have the details of any Super Mario-related storyline spoiled for you, it would be best if you did not use the Super Mario Wiki until you have finished playing through the storyline.
