Captain Syrup made her debut appearance in ''[[Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3]]''. In this game, the protagonist, Wario, still reeling from [[Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins|his defeat]] at the hands of [[Mario]] and the loss of [[Mario's castle|his castle]], sets out to find new riches. Wario decides to make his fortune by stealing all the treasures he can from someone else, which ended up being Captain Syrup.

Syrup's gang has stolen many treasures, which are kept and guarded throughout Kitchen Island. One of the treasures Syrup's gang has stolen is a giant golden monument of [[Princess Peach|Princess Toadstool]] that they are apparently holding for ransom to the [[Mushroom Kingdom]]. Ultimately, Wario decides to raid [[Syrup Castle]], the location of Captain Syrup and her hoard of treasure.

During battle, Syrup summons a [[Genie (Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3)|Genie]] from a magic lamp, hops onto the genie's shoulders, and the two fly around, launching fireballs at Wario. Eventually, Wario defeats the genie; however, Captain Syrup escapes by blowing up her own castle, promising to get her revenge.

Captain Syrup returns in ''[[Wario Land II]]''. She leads her pirates in a raid on [[Wario Castle]] and steals all of his riches. As such, Wario returns to Kitchen Island to retake all the treasures that were stolen from him. Wario battles Syrup several times during this adventure, compared to just once. In battle, Captain Syrup throws bombs at Wario, dashes at him and controls a robot from one of her various aircrafts. Eventually, Wario defeats Syrup in combat and takes back all of her treasures.

Captain Syrup returns in ''[[Wario Land: Shake It!]]''. She is first seen robbing the [[Kodaigi]] from a museum, which she uses to observe the kidnapping of [[Queen Merelda]] and her [[Merfle]] tribe within the [[Shake Dimension]]. She finds out the existence of the tribe's [[Bottomless Coin Sack]], which is in possession of the evil [[Shake King]]. Desiring the treasure but not wanting to get it herself, Captain Syrup sends a [[Merfle (character)|Merfle]] to give the Kodaigi to [[Wario]]. The Merfle persuades him to enter the dimension with the promise of treasure, sending Wario on a quest to unknowingly retrieve the Bottomless Coin Sack for Captain Syrup.

Captain Syrup's role in the game is to sell Wario maps of the different continents of the Shake Dimension at the [[Pirate Shop]], which also sells various health recovery items. Captain Syrup is shown to lightly flirt with Wario, calling him "handsome" on several occasions. At the end of the game, Wario takes the Bottomless Coin Sack for himself, but Captain Syrup takes it, along with all the coins he expelled from it, while he is not looking and rides off. Captain Syrup has a different ship in this game, [[the Sweet Stuff]]. While the [[SS Tea Cup]] took the form of its namesake, this vessel is shaped to resemble a treasure chest.

Captain Syrup appears in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' as an Advanced-class Grab-type primary [[Spirit (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)|spirit]]. The spirit only boosts the user's overall power without granting any special effect. In the spirit's battle, the player faces [[Bayonetta]] and a giant grayscale [[King Dedede]] on the [[Pirate Ship (stage)|Pirate Ship]] stage. The opponents reference Captain Syrup and the Genie from ''Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3''.

Syrup appears in the ''Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land'' saga of the [[Super Mario (Kodansha manga)|''Super Mario'' Kodansha manga]] as the main antagonist. She and her crew steal the golden statues of [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] and flee to her lair at Kitchen Island, being followed by Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Wario, who are later aided by a friendly [[Wanderin' Goom]]. Syrup is introduced in the second volume, where she commands [[Bobo]] to bring the statue away from the ship after Mario and company has taken over it. Later, while being chased in [[Parsley Woods]], she drops some [[Big]]s and flees on the train to her castle.

After defeating the [[Knight]], the heroes discover that Syrup already melted the statue to make another of herself. After arriving in her chamber, she leaves the Genie to handle the heroes, and after they defeat him, she activates the castle's self-destruct sequence and tosses away all of the treasure she collected from the window. She then tries to flee to a bunker, while still being chased by the heroes, but when falling debris squashes and kills the Goom, making Luigi cry, she also starts crying. The heroes catch up to her and enter the bunker just in time to survive the explosion. Since the statue was destroyed, Syrup is let go, having lost everything in the journey, including the crew and the Genie's lamp.

In the after-story of the saga, Syrup returns to Kitchen Island to find the lamp and reunite the crew. Mario and Luigi arrive to see how Wario is doing and meet her. After seeing something bulging in Mario's pants, she convinces herself that he is hiding the lamp in there. She then initiates convoluted plans to take the "lamp", which are thwarted by Wario, Luigi, and her former crew, who had possession of the lamp after Wario tossed it away after getting a birdhouse instead of the desired castle, and intend to make their ex-captain pay for losing their treasure in the explosion. After several failed attempts, she then tries to summon the genie by rubbing Mario's crotch, but [[Princess Daisy]] informs her that what she is touching is "another kind of treasure", making her realize in embarrassment what she has done. The former crew attempts an attack, but the lamp falls into Syrup's hands and, with the promise of making her former crew pay for the wild goose chase, she then directs her anger to Mario and friends, to silence them from ever speaking of what just happened. Mario and Daisy, after dodging the Genie's attack, manage to break his lamp, leaving Syrup powerless. Accepting defeat, she quits and leaves with the crew.

===''Super Mario-kun''===
Captain Syrup only appears in the ''Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3'' arc of ''[[Super Mario-kun]]'' ([[Super Mario-kun Volume 10|volumes 10]] to [[Super Mario-kun Volume 13|13]]), even though her crew appears in a chapter based of ''Wario Land II'' and in the ''Wario Land: Shake It!'' arc in the ''[[Ore Dayo! Wario Dayo!!]]'' spin-off.

She and her crew stole from the inhabitants of [[Watasu no Shima]] a giant golden statue of Princess Peach. Mario and [[Yoshi]] decide to investigate and find Wario who joins them to get revenge to the pirates that "stole" his plan to steal the statue (later, Luigi also joins them in the journey).

Syrup is first seen in [[Super Mario-kun Volume 11|volume 11]] where she contacts [[Spiked Koopa]] to get ready for the heroes' arrival.

In the next volume, the heroes have reached the castle. She spends the entirety of chapter 8 activating the traps and taking it out on a [[Pirate Goom]] when they fail. In the next chapter, the heroes have arrived in her chambers, being surprised in knowing that the legendary Captain Syrup is a woman, she summons the genie and spends the full battle (which extends to the next volume) complaining to the genie and even paying him to do his job.

In the next volume, the battle results in the castle collapsing and Syrup flees on a gacha-ball escape pod, later regretting the nausea-inducing escape plan. Right when the heroes find Peach's Golden Statue under the castle's rubble, Syrup returns in a helicopter to take away the statue, while [[Jet Wario]] attempts to stop her. Meanwhile, Syrup activates a giant mecha forming from the castle's ruins and sends it against Mario, Luigi and Yoshi, but they come out victorious. Wario gets the statues back, but Syrup pricks him, powering him down to [[Tiny Wario]] form, then flies away, thinking they won't be able to return to land with such a big statue. Unaware to her, the statue activates itself and warps Mario, Luigi and Yoshi away, while Wario is left with the Genie lamp alone and penniless.

If the player accepts to search for the communicator he dropped into the sea, he states that the player is "even sweeter than the famous Captain Syrup—but without her double-crossin', I hope!"

==General Information==
===Physical description===

In Syrup's first two appearances, she appears as a very tall and developed brunette. Her hair was long, curly, and reddish-brown, and her eyes were brown and she wore red lipstick. Syrup wore a cyan one-piece outfit which had large puffy leggings, was rounded at the hips, and had two loops at each shoulder. She also wore yellow sashes throughout her outfit, all of which were tied with twin bow-like ends; one as a bandanna on her head, two tied around her wrists, and one tied around her waist as a belt. Syrup also wore semi-long dark green boots and pink skull earrings. Aside from her individuality, Syrup's facial structure and features were very undefined and generic.

In her re-debut in ''Wario Land: Shake It!'', Syrup's design is revamped. Her former cyan clothing is replaced with a new purple-based design. No longer wearing a one-piece suit, Syrup now wears a light purple top mimicking the appearance of the last outfit's design. She also wears a large red belt with a white skull buckle, and knee-length, purple, puffy pants with torn leg openings. Replacing her green boots are purple boots with light bottoms and a pink roll-over ankle. She has light-purple wraps with long strands, and a light purple bandanna. Her accessories include a tooth-like necklace, and golden octopus earrings. Her hair is not much different from before, though it is red, and better detailed. She still wears red lipstick, and now wears blue eyeshadow and has red eyes and eyelashes.

===Powers and abilities===
The most notable ability Syrup possesses is her great skill in thievery, being heavily present in all of her appearances. Syrup has managed to steal such goods as treasure from Wario right under his nose, a giant golden statue of Princess Peach from the Mushroom Kingdom, and the legendary Ancient Globe from a museum.

She is implied to have knowledge of constructing aircrafts and other robots, as she uses them in all of her battles with Wario in ''Wario Land II''.

===Personality===
Syrup is greedy, sassy, cunning and deceptive. Much like her rival Wario, she loves treasure and is willing to go the extra mile to get it. This aspect is most apparent in ''Wario Land: Shake It!'', where she sends a mail to Wario asking him to journey into the Shake Dimension to get the Bottomless Coin Sack, while assisting him all the way by selling him items, only to betray him in the end, nabbing the sack for herself and fleeing away.
