A Barrel Shield is a type of shield in the two Donkey Kong games, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble and Donkey Kong Land III.
A Barrel Shield is a shield that protects Dixie and Kiddy from acorns thrown by Minkeys. They appear in the hollow-tree levels of Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land III, where they respectively debut in Barrel Shield Bust-Up and Minky Mischief. Barrel Shields are seen with most groups of Minkeys, and either remain in one position or move vertically on the rope, starting with the first Minkey and ending with the last one. The Kongs must keep up with the Barrel Shield to remain shielded from a Minkey's projectiles. Some Barrel Shields move faster than others. In some cases, it is mandatory for the Kongs to hide behind a Barrel Shield, as certain segments have too many Minkeys.

During the tree levels of the two games, the heroes will be attacked by the pesky Minkies, throwing nuts at them. In times like this, they might find the rare, but useful, Barrel Shields. While these shields move up and down along ropes, the Kongs can climb behind them for protection. Though this can be a big help at times, the Barrel Shield can move in the opposite direction suddenly, leaving the Kongs as an open target for the Minkies. Nevertheless, as long as the heroes manage to stay behind the barrel-shaped shield, they can avoid the Minkies' nuts at all times.
