When approaching the hills, the player can press the A Button to cause their character to jump off the top, with pressing A closer to the edge of the hump giving a longer air time. The player must then tilt their system to cause their character to land on a 0° angle with their landing surface. This surface is usually horizontal throughout most of the event, but will tilt upwards on some of the larger hills at the end of the course. Depending on the angle the player tilts to, regardless of whether the angle is positive or negative, the player will be given a ranking on how well they landed the jump, as well as being told their angle, and will then receive a speed boost depending on their rating. An angle of less than 10° will receive a "Perfect" rating and the largest speed boost, and anything above 10° up to 15° will score as "Great" and will get a slightly smaller speed boost. Any angle from 15° up to 25° inclusive will be rated as "Good" and will receive a small boost, and anything over 25° will be rated as "Bad" and will not cause the player to gain any speed. The player is able to push around the other racers in this event, and is also able to slipstream them on some of the longer straights and corners. | ||
